KYB GR2 Struts don't seem to fit spindle correctly
KYB GR2 Struts don't seem to fit spindle correctly
Hello,
I have a 1987 Camaro Sport that was a V6 car when I started. I have swapped the entire drive line from a 1991 Firebird Formula 350 with WS6 suspension. I installed a set of KYB GR2 struts, but they seem to be too wide by 3/32" when mounting to spindle, has anyone ever seen this before?

Re: KYB GR2 Struts don't seem to fit spindle correctly
I just got my GR-2's yesterday and they are a bit wider at the mounting point than the spindle. The old struts look like they pulled in once torqued. I think they will be fine once tightened. Sounds like we are doing similar projects. I'm swapping out a v6 auto in a 92 convertible with a 305 tpi 5 speed from a 91 Formula. Just curious, which front springs are you using. I have a set of MOOG 5610's I going to use. Trying to get some feedback in another post but I guess no one else is using them.
Re: KYB GR2 Struts don't seem to fit spindle correctly
Thanks for the reply, but I did tighten them and the alignment shop said there is too much play to align car correctly. I'm using the stock ws6 springs so I can't offer any input on the 5610's. Let me know if you can get the car aligned correctly.

Those torque to around 150 ft lbs (some charts show higher). Torqued correctly it should tighten up the 'ears' to the spindle. A set I had were the same way.
Re: KYB GR2 Struts don't seem to fit spindle correctly
The shop thought it was the struts as the entire front end is new. I will take NAF advice and torque them to 150 ft lbs and see what happens.
Thanks NAF I'll let you know if that does the trick.
