Remove spindle without removing springs??
I want to pull the spindles off so i can cut the ears and drill and tap holes for the LS1 conversion brackets.
Is there a way to do this without pulling the springs out? Any help, greatly appreciated!
Id rather not go through the hassle of putting the springs back in again.
thanks

Yup, what he said...
Just jack the front up underneath the control arms and support it that way. Keeps the spring loaded and in its place, but takes its tension completely off of the spindle.
That's how you change out the struts as well. Good time to do that in fact since at that point all you have to take off is one more nut, and then they just fall out.

What they said about holding the a-arm up. Large blocks of wood can also be used. Place it/them just inboard of the ball joint.
Just a note about the strut to steering knuckle bolts, they are TTY (torque to yield) on a '92. And should be replaced whenever disassembled. Not sure when GM went to TTY bolts there, but I know that in '92 they are.
Have the broken bolts and the FSM procedure to prove it.

Re: Remove spindle without removing springs??
Guys, thanks for the ideas. Just got back to putting this car back together and decided to go with ls1 brakes after the front suspension was reassembled. The springs were not easy going back in and didn't want to fight with them again. At least now I can leave them in and pull the spindle for modding.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
