can you just reseal where the input shaft goes into the steering box?
dont ask me what happend cause i have no clue. there were no leaks at all on the car and i pulled the column out and steering box to paint the engine compartment. well now it seems that the steering box has a small leak were the input shaft goes into it. ive read on here about rebuilding the complete box and i am not getting into that. can i just pull the box back out and put a new ring where the input shaft goes in so i dont have to take the complete unit apart?
also the car needs a alignment cause i put new tie rods on it. if i have it lined up and put a new steering box assembly in it will the steering wheel be off to where i have to get a alignment again?

Sure... as part of a "rebuild".
Not alot of sense in fixing that one leak, when all the other seals are in the same shape, since they're made from the exact same material and have been subject to the exact same conditions for the exact same length of time.
Besides, they're EEEEEEZY to rebuild.
If you put the box together right, everything will be pretty much exactly where it was before; so, no alignment required.
