Free Height Springs

when using a lower free height spring with higher spring rate..

stock iroc spring free height is like 13 or 14 inchs 700ish spring rate
assuming everything is the same

if i used a 12in free height spring with 800-900 spring rate

would i keep my 25ish inch ride heght i want to keep it inbetween 25-26in to fender arch or would i need to space spring abit to get ride height do to shorter spring ?

same with rear plan on using 175 using 12in height spring but i think thats really to short due stock free height is 15 i think

or im just way off talking crazy lol
trying to stay with tallest spring and keep lower stance
need guidence thank you

Without it you will be aprox 24 1/2 to 25 1/2" range and will ground out badly.

Also you had better think about aftermarket strut mounts that raise the strut travel- or else your strut wlll ground out against that too

I had a 12" 825lb spring in a V6 without an isolator that sat fender lip of 24 3/4". But I was about 300lbs lighter on the nose of the car than you and had very lightweight suspension and brake assembly that would not thrust upward with as much force as a heavier stock setup. I had very little suspension travel (about 1" normal travel and a max of 1 1/2" recorded with travel indicators.- Your car might travel more like about 2-3" and be slamming the bumpstops or grounding out the strut mounts and damge your struts. It won't be pretty. Better use good isolators and you should be fine
yea thats on order soon i need the extra travel and alignment ajustments ..now i got ignition stuff sorted out can get back on suspension stuff .. i got new AGX Struts and shocks from a trade gives me more time to save for koni all around around i think anything around 25" below you are hitting bump stops correct wouldnt that alter spring rate so did you trim bumb stop to get extra travel with 825 and you where 24 3/4" thats lower then what i am now and your lighter i would defianatly be scrapping something

if its to low i use some thicker spring isolaters to get the hieght right and save struts...
as im going for more like 900 front and 175 rear
im running largest factory roll bars 3o sumthing front and 1" rear idk exact measurments so i might go lower spring rate in rear

I did not have stock bumpstops, mater of fact I had nothing stock to cut to the chase.

You will have several issues with going that low. Aftermarket trans xbraces will rub, Tqarm diff bolts will damage the chassis sheetmetal, rear bumps need to be trimmed for suspension travel, front a-arms invert and cause camber loss in travel, alot of issues you will need to address going that low. You better learn chassis dynamics and have alot of money or you will just be worsening your ride quality and handling.

Alos- going to a thinker isolator kind of defeats the purpose of going to heavier springs. You are putting in softness that will squish easier than the spring- just to take up gap
not trying to go that low trying to stay above 25 1/2" atleast....
24" is way to low for me

for spacer was if need.. was thinking Polyurethane not rubber

ive seen the issues of being that low last camaro i had previous owner lowered to much undercarriage didnt like it at all

Re: Free Height Springs

well was researching to my ill lack of knowleadge of the rubber or polyurehtane spacers is a pretty stupid idea and they go inbetween the coils when i research more i feel like a idiot lol

only thing available in steel is adjustable weight jack setup

which leads me to another question

for the front.. majority run ajustable setups from top of spring... is there any difference as i also seen in other threads with same a arm strut setup use weight jacks on the bottom of spring... is it personal preference..
