Steering box input shaft seal.
The input shaft seal on my steering box is leaking. The seal where the steering shaft rag joint connection is. Not the pitman arm shaft. I got a seal kit from acdelco that includes a new seal, dust seal, snap ring and an o-ring to do the repair. All i want to do is replace the seal. My steering box has maybe 500 miles on it and I dont want to tear the box completely down if I dont have to since I dont have a seal kit for the box. The box is an acdelco reman unit I bought back in 2008 so its not under warranty anymore. The box is just fine besides the leak. Is it possible to just replace the seal by unthreading the big lock nut and removing the cap that holds the seal? I know I'll have to remove the box but thats not a problem. I can have it off in about 30 minutes. Anybody done this before or know if it can be done? Thanks.
