Rear end lift??? Need help!!!
New to the game guys but I've got an 86 Z28 that I plan on running some heft exhaust under and I worried about clearance issues towards the tail end. I've got dual three inch tips I plan on running out each side right in front of the rear tires. I want to lift the back end up about an inch or two so I want have to worry about scraping any pavement! I just want to know what my best options are for getting the lift I want. (any added traction would just be a plus!) I'm not the best when it comes to suspension... Thoughts, Ideas, Advice!

From what I have read from several other threads here, using 4th gen shock isolators gives about an inch more in height over the stock third gen isolators.

I believe the MOOG 5665 springs with the isolators will give you what you want. Those springs are stiff so that should help.

Okay, I looked up the MOOG 5665 springs, but is there somewhere I can buy the 4th gen shock isolators? It seems like a fairly simple fix if that's all that would need to be done!

I have a rear kit by ground control new in the box.with this kit you can raise or lower your end 2 inches either way.or more. This is a brand new kit you can no longer get just the rears. This was going to be listed 250 shipped.

You could always just put a 28" tire on the back, if you're into that.

It would be convenient to be able to pick the ride height, I might look at the full kits. I thought about putting bigger tires on the back too but I'm going to try to avoid it if I can.

Just remember that if you raise the rear that much you will destroy the handling of the vehicle.

Yea I've worried about the rear end being all over the place, I think I could get by with just 3/4 or an inch of lift at the most. I don't want it to have crazy rake, just a subtle lean forward. I might end getting some aftermarket sway bars or something to help with the roll.

You might want to get the exhaust setup first, dual exhaust can be a challenge on these cars, even with side dumps. You might find it's not worth the trouble. Don't need to waste time modding the suspension (which is going to kill the handling) if it never becomes an issue.

I just wanted to say that for the record the upper spring Isolators for the rear springs are the same part # from 82-2002.

Yea, I definitely plan on making sure it will work out like a want it to before I start screwing with any of the suspension. Even thought about switching out those three inch tips with some flat boom tube tips just to save some ground clearance.

Jacking up the rear of the car to fit side exhaust? Really? It's going to look awful. If you really insist on this nonsense a homemade weight jack setup is going to be your best bet.

Some 5" diameter ~13 inch tall springs in the 150-200lb range would cover it. Do some research and it can be done for $150-$200 if you get it right the first time. Otherwise buy those GC weight jacks from sofa.
But maybe the stiffest tallest rear factory replacement spring you can find from Moog will be good enough. It just depends. Jacking the car up enough to get clearance for 3 inch pipes coming out the side of it is going to take quite a lot.
