Sway Bars

I have a 91 RS Convertible that I have went through completly. It would take to long to tell you everything I have done. Lets say I have $6,500 into the suspension alone. The only thing I haven't changed are the sway bars.

The front one is 33mm I think and the rear is 24mm. I did put new bushings and ends just not bars. Here's my question...

Should I spend the cash and put aftermarket bars on or would it just be spending money that does'nt need to be spent?

First, I doubt your car has 33mm front and 24mm rear. If it is like my 90 RS convertible it has 30mm front solid sway bar and 21mm rear. I swapped a 34mm hollow front sway bar and matching 23mm rear bar. I also installed a steering brace (aka wonderbar). The 34mm hollow front sway bar AND the steering brace weighs less than the lower performance 30mm solid bar they replaced.

IMO this is the most obvious case of a win-win you could get. A performance gain along with a simultaneous weight reduction is hard to replicate elsewhere.

You can further upgrace the cornering ability by upgrading to a 36mm hollow front sway bar and matching 24mm rear sway bar, but you will also pay a weight penalty for this performance gain.

Re: Sway Bars

Stiffness gained by adding Wonderbar and replacing factory sway bar are worth the money. As I remember, the Wonderbar has six bolts; "what could go wrong?" [Don't ask]
