Re: 3.73 gears and 28 Spline Axles?

3.73 ratio is fine with 28 spline axles. But.........
If your saying that 26 spline axles are stronger than 28 spline your mistaken..
As far as I know the 28 spline axle is the thickest you can use in a ten bolt.
Its 3.42 then 3.73 and so on.....
Here's a list of my build =
This is a breakdown. Some of these parts are necessary for the build and some can be changed to match your personal preference as in brand and style L.S.D./Locker.,etc.

  1. 3.42 ring and pinion =$ 200.00
  2. master bearing kit = $ 90.00
  3. axle bearings and seals = $ 30.00
  4. 28 spline Eaton posi. Unit = $ 500.00
  5. 28 spline axles = $250.00
  6. installation/labor = $ 300.00
  7. and if you want ,a LPW Ultimate support cover = $ 160.00
  8. Thats $1,530.00 counting the cover.
  9. 3 year warranty on parts and labor

In the thread above some of the experienced members talk about the "Ability's" and disadvantages / limitations of even a Built 10 Bolt.
I've driven mine hard for 6 years as a DD. I like to have fun but I have the Mickey Thompson's "Street" tires that don't hook right of the line. It takes a foot or two then they grab.
Its all in the hook.
Sticky tires and a hard launce is what does them in.

Your going to LOVE the 3.73 and Eaton Posi.

Re: 3.73 gears and 28 Spline Axles?

If you are planning to spend $1500 on your 10 bolt as a temporary fix, I think you need to step back and look at some options. Shop around alittle

Also look at other places than the common big box summit and jegs.

Quicktime performance has the eaton posi unit, gear set and bearings for $560 http://www.quickperformance.com/GM-7...t_p_20409.html

You can do a ford 9" swap for $1700-1800 if you shop around.

QTP bolt in aftermarket 9" housing, Moser axles 28 to 35 spline, torque arm mount for $1000 http://www.quickperformance.com/QP-G...xles_p_40.html

Then shop around for a third member like this rebuilt 31 spline used detroit locker third member with your pick of 3.25, 3.50, 3.70 gears for $500
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-9-NINE-INCH-GEAR-31-SPLINE-DETROIT-LOCKER-COMPLETE-THIRD-MEMBER-/151634330783?hash=item234e1c449f&vxp=mtr
Or this for $790,.. 31 spline Trac lock posi, any gear ratio http://www.ebay.com/itm/9-INCH-FORD-REAR-THIRD-MEMBER-MUSTANG-MAVERICK-HOT-ROD-TRACLOC-POSI-or-SPOOL-/221724805456?hash=item339fd40950&vxp=mtr
So with the above you have a bolt in (less brakes) ford 9" for as low as $1500 or as high as $1790
