7.5 g80 for camaro?
Currently have 3.23 gears. Looking to install a g80 from an s10. Anyone know if the 3.23 came with 26 or 28 spline? Did the s10 g80 come with 28 spline?

S10 would almost certainly be 26 spline. Also the Gov-lock is not suitable for performance use. It's fragile when used as burn-out promoting unit. They are designed for truck use where people rarely try to burn their tires, etc. And if it's going in the 83 in your sig - you'll SHRED the poor thing in very, very short order. They usually catastrophically detonate with obvious implications for your R&P teeth.
Get a Torsen (Eaton Truetrac) This eliminates one of the weak points on the 10 bolt - it's 2 pinion carrier. And get 28 spline axles, and c-clip eliminators.

The "G80" is probably the worst possible thing you can put into a "performance" application.
What it actually does, is behave as an "open", as long as the difference in RPMs between the 2 axles is below about 150 RPM. Once that threshold is exceeded, it locks up with a BANG. Quite literally sometimes: there's a photo running around somewhere of one that exploded so violently that the shrapnel not only went through the axle cover, but also into the gas tank. Now that's JUST what everybody needs; a thing that when it fails, which is almost inevitable, sends sparking red-hot shrapnel into the fuel. You can see lots of pictures of failed ones on the S and the full-size truck message boards, where they are widely hated.
In short, DON'T use one of those.
That said, the 26/28 spline difference is the same as any other vehicle's. Before about 1990 they were 26, 90-up more or less, they changed to 28. It has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the gears, except that they had some number of various ratios already in stock w 26-spline in them, and they ran out of different ones at different times, so the changeover wasn't instantaneous, but rather occurred over a period of a few months of production.

These guys are right, the truck G80 is a Governor Lock and is no good for any kind of performance use. G80 in a car is a different kind of differential.
Also any 7.5 rear end will have 26 spline axles from around '89 and older and 28 spline axles from around '90 and newer. Your '83 Camaro will have 26 spline axles. There are no Torsen differentials with 26 spline axles, so you will have to upgrade to 28 spline axles if you want to use one of them. I think you can get a Eaton Truetrac with 26 splines.

Thanks for the warning guys. Looks like the free G80 is going in the garbage!
