Re: front struts??????

An important factor is what conditions you will be using them in-- auto x, drag, daily, etc; and your budget!
You can find all kinds of threads on practically any type of strut/shock/spring on this site. I used it when i picked out my KYB Excel G strut/ Gas Adjust shock combo this spring and was really pleased with the results for cruising. Whole setup cost me $100.

Here's a tip if you're getting too many results when you do a general search using the red search box: you can put words in quote marks for better matches, like "Lakewood strut" to find results like these: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/orga...od-90-10s.html

Also note: there is a flyout menu in the blue bar to "Search this Forum" to limit your results to a certain forum once you're in it i.e. Suspension and Chassis

Good luck!

Re: front struts??????

get some 90/10s and go autocrossing... make sure someone records it and that you post it here because that would be awesome...

Re: front struts??????

I love my struts I got from TPIS. 150 bucks. They are custom valved, and adjust to how you drive. (stiffen up with more aggressive driving) I know a couple guys that work there and have talked to them in person about them. IMHO, thats what id get. I know everyone here loves the yellow kohns or what ever. Im sure there is better out there but for 150 bucks, hell of a deal.

Antone else out there run TPIS struts?

Re: front struts??????

I run Koni SPA1 front struts on my drag car. When set full soft, the front end is very bouncy and I can grab a fender and easily lift the car up and down. To help keep my front end on the ground, I have them cranked up as stiff as they can go and use a travel limiter. Can't even move the front end when at full stiff.

Adjustable shocks are a tuning aid. There is no real "one setting fits all situations". If you want to throw in a set of shocks and forget about them, put in some aftermarket OEM type replacements.

Re: front struts??????

I run the KYB adjustables AGX up front in my car. They work just fine. Mainly bc i can't afford koni yellows lol and I don't drive The car hard like autox etc. Mines a pleasure car so it's only seen like 500 miles in the last couple of years. I ran them with a 900lb front spring and a 200lb rear with gas a just kyb rear socks. Now I have 850 lb front weight jacks with the AGX struts, and 150lb rear weight jacks with viking double adjustable rear shocks.

My rear gas a just are for sale btw.

Re: front struts??????

https://www.tpis.com/ when the page loads, top right in red "download catalog" Page 18.

I have one of their old catalogs and the description says, filled with nitrogen gas and controlled by full displacement valving. Piston rod is chromed and sealed with an o-ring and not a nylon band. They say they used the same technology in improving the Vet strut and took that to the 3rd gen strut.

TPIS hasn't sold these struts for 5 years now. I called today to ask and spoke with Bob. He thought it was weird that they were getting a bunch of calls lately.

He also had a great comment about how all the good options today don't make it ride well...something about how people think you should be internally bleeding after trip around the block to show how well it performs.

I have a stockish G8 GXP and really like the firm, yet liveable handling... I must be getting old...
