steering box ?

I have an 84 firebird that came with a 2.8L V6 (don't worry 350 is getting ready). I'm in the process of upgrading the rest of the car and have been thinking about a quick ratio power steering box. Right now it takes me 2.5 turns to go from one side to the other with the steering wheel. Does this mean I have the quick ratio box? How can I be for sure. I wouldn't think they'd put one on a firebird with a 2.8L V6 and no other options. Thanks.

2.5 turns is the standard Z28 ratio and 2.25 is the IROC or high performance ratio. The difference isn't a whole lot, but the *real* difference is in the steering effort and feel. The steering effort with the 2.5 box is more suitable for steering with your pinky while drinking a shake and talking on a cell phone. If you're looking for the 2.25 box in a junk yard, it would be from a car with 16" wheels.
