I cleaned up the underbody, and put a new fuel tank, pump, and sending unit. While I was under there, I saw how gross the stock bump stops were. I checked around and found some nice ones on Hawks Motorsports for $99.95. Here they are next to the originals. Only problem is, they are about half an inch bigger/taller than stock. I hope this is not an issue as I will be lowering the car 1-2". Anyways, here are some pics.
Before.
After.
I think that little bit of red against all that black and silver really makes it pop just enough to look great.
And keep those old ones? No way. I did remove them to clean and paint the underside, but once it was all done, the old ones looked terrible back on. Also, they were rubber. I wanted something new and preferred polyurethane.
Cleaning the rubber and maybe some touch up paint on the metal should have them like new. Your probably going to have to trim the new ones with the drop.
According to Herb Adams, the bump stops are tuned as part of the spring package on the cars. They can be changed, height, width and angles to make it hit slower or harder or faster. Crazy the stuff that's in his book..
I was also contemplating buying these. They have been in my eBay cart for like 5 months now. Dont know if i can justify spending $100. I don't see them worth more than $50. for the hight issue. You could probably just take a grinder and file that bracket down.
Agreed- if these were $39.99 there’d probably be a lot more posts about them. $100 before shipping is beyond the beer money “sure” realm of spending. They do look sharp though, 85, so props to you there. How have they been drive-wise? Even notice a diff?
I also assumed these would bounce your head off the roof if you took a speed bump way too fast vs rubber (or more accurately old AF semi-deteriorated rubber) but interestingly here the guy notes these poly bumps supposedly ”reduce rebound forces.” http://www.camarotech.com/suspension.html
I've never seen a set of rear bump stops that were worn out. A squirt of Bleche-Wite followed by a light old-toothbrush scrub would take the brown oxidation off those old bump stops. I mean the steel isn't even rusty...

^^^ This is a gut-buster. ^^^ It reads like the sheer thought of using an insignificant, used part is just horrifying.

Then this part. If dog **** were billet aluminum and red poly, this dude would buy it. If I won the Mega-Millions jackpot, I wouldn't buy crap like this.
Gotchya. Still think they look cool tho :P If it were a real “upgrade” ES would probably have a pair. BTW James C thanks for all your posts over the years. Many have been quite helpful.

I actually ended up finding a set on ebay for like $65. I have them on my car now.
