I still have this problem!
Imagine this. I'm pulling out of the driveway in 1st gear going pretty slow (idle) in 1st just getting it cruise (no gas) then I tap the gas to give it a forward thrust and it bounces back and forth. It's worse in reverse. I can hear a lot of the gears being noisy and what not and my rear end obviously has been had fluid leaking out. Also, it does this in every gear (but 1st 2nd and 3rd are the noisiest) This is my project car so I don't use it as a daily driver. I thought it was the transmission mount. I checked those but not with a jack, I'll do that today. I used the pry bar. So should I just check to see if everything is bolted together back there? Also, I need BADLY new shocks and struts, could that also be it? I've been asking this question for about 3 months on and off and no one has been able to help me. Does anyone else's car have this problem?
Another thing is, this only happens when gas is applied. I can be going pretty fast and push in the clutch and just cruise and everything will be running smoothly. When I tap the gas in my other cars all it does is give the WHOLE car a forward thrust and I am pushed back in my seat a bit, in my bird it's like I'm on one of those springy kid's ride that goes back and forth. Also, I'm pretty sure it's not the motor mounts because when the clutch is out the engine seems to stay.
Tranny Mounts? Motor mounts? Shocks? Drive shaft U-joints? Could it possibly be the torque arm since that is attached to the transmission? Track bar? Could I possibly need a new rear end? Should I put axle on jack stands and run through the gears and see what happens? AHH!

Check the stuff you questioned in your second post... In my 5 speed Firebird, the shifter would rise up when you accellerated before I changed the torn trans mount.
Some more info about the car may lead to more helpful suggestions.

There is a fair amount of slop in the drivetrain on a manual trans vehicle. Some (most?) is in the clutch itself. (there are springs in there to dampen some of the inherent vibrations, if they get weak, or fail altogether, you get even more slop) In any case, all the slop in the assorted driveline components adds up. At low speed, in any gear, you can "bounce" the gas, and all the slop becomes apparent.
This is relatively normal. (provided it does not get to rediculous)
Have fun.

Thanks for all your guys help. I put the rear axle on jack stands and ran through all the gears then looked under the car. The tranny was bobbing all over the place especially in 5th at low RPMs. Got a new tranny mount. Best 7.99 I've spent. Thanks. But how would you adjust the time? Thanks. Now only to put it on. Do you think that fact that it's been like this for a long time with hard driving affect the clutch or any of the drive train etc?

It's not the tranny mount.
I saw on the torque arm the mount? and could I replace that it's really soft. Then I turned back and forth the driveshaft to transmission u joint with my hand and it moved and made a clicking noise in the transmission. I didn't think it was supposed to move.
