Anyone have to 'withold information' to get parts?
This is suspension related don't worry..
This is the score. I would like Spohn lower control arms and relocation brackets for my Zee. My wife would like me never to spend another penny (dime
) on it!!
Bear in mind I live in the UK so everything is more expensive by about one and a half times
I have my garage mechanic over here ready to play ball so that I can pay him now for the LCA's and he will organise the whole thing and store them for me. This is good as my wife will never see them so when he next services my car he can slip them on at the same time
So the questions I have for y'all are;
1) Is this morally wrong? (bear in mind I have spent a lot on the car and we have a baby on its way
)
2) If I just buy the LCA's without the relocation brackets will it still help a lot in the 1/4 mile (my car is lowered by 1.5")
3) Should I spend the cash on a strut tower brace instead?
We have recently 'joined' or accounts so I will have to do this stealthily, if at all.
What do you think?
Cheers
Felix
Sorry this is such a strange scenario, but it matters a lot to me.
Thanks

... if you have a baby coming, I say let the mods wait.
It's not like the LCA's and relo brkts are going to keep you from driving the car.
... plus, if you spend a lil attention towards the missus and the newborn now, it'll be a lot easier to buy what you want a lil later on, with her blessing.
That way you'll be able to keep the wife, the newborn AND the car.
... that's just my opinion, but one I developed from raising two kids and now with two grandkids.

The relocation brackets will help more than the LCA's. Made a huge difference in my 82 using the stock LCA's and bushings. TELL her you need them to stop the wheel hop, which can lots of other expensive damage that will prevent the car from being useful. The brackets aren't that expensive, and a good welder could make you set for really cheap probably.

PF Flyer, thanks for the advise, I know what you say makes the most sense.. you are like my consious speaking
I'm lucky to be able to keep the car at all, thank *** my dream car was the IROC and not the Corvette (2 seats) otherwise it would have gone a long time ago!
82 Camaro, I would probably get her 'blessing' on the relocation brackets as they are far more affordable and easier to ship, so if you reckon they are really worth it, I may ask her for those
Are the weld on's the better to go for? What about if I replaced the bushings in the stock LCA's whilst I'm at it?
Thanks guys.

I would also recommend just the relocation brackets for now. They will help the most and later on you can do the other upgrades, after the birth of your new family member,CONGRATS by the way!!! Yes go with weld in brackets, too high stress of a suspension part to bolt in,I have the Spohn brackets and highly recommend them, and they are affordable.

2 years ago my ex and I were blessed with a little boy. At the time, money was so tight I had to sell my 69 LeMans that my father and I restored. She never had a job, so I was making all the money. If I had enough to keep us going, and buy car parts, I wouldn't think twice about buying them. Now that your monies are combined, I could see asking first. By all means, if you care at all about what she might say or do, (pregnant women can do some strange things) talk to her about it first. PF Flyer and 82 both made a good point, get the cheap part now, and the rest at a later date.

Most of what I have read in regards to LCA relocation brackets have referred to helping a lowered car. Will the brackets help me out on my car at stock height? I already have the Spohn LCAs and panhard bar.

Fred91TA - the relo brackets won't really help a stock height car. They are from keeping the LCA's level on a lowered car.
Felix - the weld in brackets are the only way to go. And congrats on the family. (.. and you thought working on cars can be tough, just you wait

) You had better ask her becuz if she finds out you will pay for it for the rest of your life.
lcr relocation brackets will help you in drag racing buy allowing you to angle the front of the lca up and change the launch of the car

No way you're from UK.. You said "reckon".
lol
You're also asking the wrong people about morality. Hehe.
Parts are actually going to cost you TWO and a half times normal, since everything you buy for the car has to be accompanied by something for the wifey.
g'luck

Dammit... ya know, I searched my whole computer for a file- it was one of those joke e-mails, titled something like "Undercover Car Mod Club". It was a whole thing about how husbands have to hide/disguise car mods from the wife. Car needs an alignment = time for a polyurethane rebuild kit. Exhaust pipe hacksawed in half = replace it with a new catback (improves gas mileage!). It said to have a hidden coffee can to keep all the change in that the wife didn't ask for back... eventually, you might be able to afford a set of spark plug wires. Funny article... and where the HELL did I put it?!?
As to joint accounts, if you save the $$ yourself, I don't see why you couldn't spend it. As in, you used to eat lunch out everyday, now you just eat an apple- $5/day towards car parts.

If I only had an apple for lunch, I would be a real cranky mother f*cker. If I don't eat enough, I get light-headed and dizzy. Then, I feel sick. Sucks real bad. Seriously, if you save lunch money by bringing it or going home for lucnh, it adds up fast. This summer, I was able to save an extra $40 to $60 bucks a week by doing that. Thread
