it should have the WS6 package. Mine has the badge, as well.
Is the RPO sheet stuck to the inside of the center console compartment?

I think that's what it means. My formula has the WS6 package and the badge also. Check the lock compartment in the trunk for the RPO sheet.

Having the performance suspension badge on the dashboard does not mean the car is a WS6. I went through all the searches on my 85 TA to learn this. I just means it has poly bushings on some components and large anti-sway bars. The WS6 included a these components, plus tires and wheels, plus rear-end gearing.

If you really want to find out for sure, go to your local Pontiac dealer with the VIN and see if they will check the background of your car for you. Chances are that they will be able to tell you the RPO codes on your car if they feel like helping you out (attitudes see to vary at dealerships).

The WS6 package has absolutly nothing to do with gearing. It included larger swaybars F/R, firmer springs, better valving in the shocks and struts. In 1987 the WS6 was not standard on Trans Am's or Formula's it was only an option. Some FE2, FE3 and F41 cars did recieve the Performance suspension badge also, because the T/A and Formula still had firmer suspensions, but no WS6. In 1988 the WS6 suspension was standard on Formulas and GTA's. Still WS6 equipped cars could have any gear ratios otherwise available to that particular model.
