It's called "panhard brace" but it's really a stiffener for the unibody.
Without it, there's nothing but the sheet metal up there, for the panhard bar to bolt to.
Without it, not only will the bracket that's spot-welded to the sheet metal probably break off (and/or the sheet metal itself), but the whole car will/does feel like a limp wet overcooked noodle back there, because there's nothing back there keeping the body (floor pan) in the right shape but the tinfoil it's made out of.
Probably the easiest way to get one is to find somebody on the Classifieds on this site that's parting out a car. Have em provide the bolts for it too, if they can (they're famous for rusting solid in place and having to be wizz-wheeled off).
Should be easy to find that part locally... I literally tossed mine in my scrap metal pile when I got my founders unit... Which, I would suggest as it allows bigger exhaust back there. Easy to install and cheap.
Thanks gentlemen! There are a couple third gens at the pull n pay here i can pick one up for about 10 bucks.
Couldn't figure out why it felt so sloppy still after I adjusted the pinon angle.
