Odd steering box question

Howdy. Long time listener first time caller.

TLDR: Should I offer my stock steering box (1990 IROC-Z presumably 12.7:1 marked “z”) which likely needs a rebuild to someone for free or toss it in the trash?

I have been lurking the third gen forums for years dreaming of a third gen Camaro similar to my dad’s patrol car that he had when I was a kid. I finally picked up a 1990 IROC-Z sight unseen shipped to my house from California. I began tearing the thing down looking for the source of some smoking, initially thinking it was a head gasket.

It turns out that the power steering pump was barely functional, the fluid was boiling over or leaking and splashing onto the entire driver’s side of the engine bay. I attempted a PS pump rebuild and found that the internals were too scored to attempt it in my non machine shop garage. As this appeared to be a pretty common PS pump I tossed it. Without a machine shop and some blessings from a priest, that thing would never work again. Since the steering was somewhat sloppy, I decided to replace that as well. I figured a rebuild of the gearbox would also not be in my skill set.

Which brings me to my current dilemma. I decided to replace both the pump and the gear box. I ordered and am in possession of a turn one hp1 pump and a Sweet MFG 10:1 .210 gearbox which I will place in the car. From what I’ve read it is getting harder and harder to find a stock core for an IROC gearbox. I am also not a fan of filling landfills with rebuildable parts.

I would like to give this thing away to someone who would use it. Both sweet and turn one seemed to think they would be able to rebuild this box. Is it a reasonable thing to do to offer to send this steering box to a rebuild company in the name of someone who wants it and hope that they might want to reimburse me for shipping after the box is deemed rebuildable? Any other ideas about what I could do with it?

Local giveaway is probably out of the question as I live in the middle of nowhere WY.
