did '88 irocs get 24mm rear bars?

I got a rear sway bar from an '88 IROC, according to my caliper it's 23.5mm. I'm assuming it was a 23 to begin with and some crud on it is making the reading 23.5. Did IROCs in '88 get 24mm bars? If not, when did camaros first get the 36/24 combo?

That's what my '88 Iroc has...34 front, 24 rear. I'm going up to 36 up front though. Also, my '91 RS has the 34/24 combo and the exact same springs.

I have no idea when it started.

do you know the rear is a 24 because you measured it or according to the suspension RPO? I thought the 24 only came with a 36 front.

Wow! Where are you guys getting these swaybars? I know the rear one would work on a 4th gen, but what about the front? Would I be able to use one of those 36mm? Thanks.

I don't know about them working on fourth gens but as far getting them, check the classifieds forum on this site and go rummaging at junk yards. search the suspension forum for which cars to look for that have the big bars

I measured it. I used a 24 mm combination open end wrench and it fit perfectly. I also checked my RPO code in my service manual and it said I had a 24mm. This also is the same as a 15/16". Here's a link to a post of mine that lists a bunch of them.

I was incorrect in my last statement, my RS came stock with a 34mm front and a 21 mm rear but I have put a 24mm rear on it. Oops...

My 85 IROC came stock with the solid 34 mm / solid 24 mm combo. As I may have mentioned in another post, some Firebirds, 86-89, and some Camaros, 89-92, had the 36/24 combo.

My 86 IROC-Z with Z28/FE2 suspension originally had 32mm front, and 24mm rear bars.

My 85 T/A has I believe 32 front and 24 rear. I have the swaybars out of an 87 Iroc though. The front is 34, and I still have to check the back. If the back is still 24 at least I wont have to change it. I believe that it had the fe2 and f41 supsension options, however I just went out to the garage and the options sheet is missing. I am pissed. I hope I find it. I know I saw it within the last couple of weeks.

so camaros did have the 24mm bar before '89? i just remeasured mine with a calibrated caliper and got 23.8 in the center and 23.5 under where one of the bushings go so I'm still confused if i have a 23 or 24mm bar.

It's probably a 24 mm bar then, if it is 23.5mm where the bushings wear. It was probably bigger there and has probably been polished down by the bushing over time.

My '89 IROC vert has the FE2 suspension option and it for sure has the hollow 36mm front and 24mm rear.
