which lowering springs to get??

Performance always goes before price, the main reason for putting the price is so that if anyone knows where i can get them cheaper then the price listed then please please tell me where.

I got hotchkis and they only droped it about 1/2 inch. They are way to hard for the street. I would use drop spindles in the front and drop springs or relocate the spring perches in the rear if i had to do it again.

They were advertised as 1 to 1.5 inch drop. I only got about 1/2 inch. It looks good though. I should also mention the oil pans (notice the plural form of this word) that I've crushed and poked holes in. The lesson here is don't get in a hurry with a lowered car.

Is the difference in drop from the front to the rear very noticable?

im worried about the rear not being dropped enough and having it look unequal..

You have to figure that your original springs are already sagging alittle, probably at least a half an inch. So if you get a half inch drop with new springs, that is probably around an inch lower than stock height.

I put the hotchkis springs on my car and I like them, I do drive over some rough roads. I will try to see if I can get a pic for you Monday. I can only stick 2 fingers in between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender.
You can see pics of my car here, just no close ups.

No. It looked more 'equal' than before. I always thought that the back end looked a little low in stock form. Also, it is only like a 1/3 inch difference in spring height front to back.

I don't go for the 'downhill' look either (although I hear that the gas mileage is better ). No worries.

Another member of the Cascade Crew (Jess aka Crusader) has the sportlines on his GTA as well. There are several pictures of his car on our message board here

I think that you will be happy with them David. FYI - I also replaced the isolators when I swapped mine... they are only a few bucks a piece.

Another fairly inexpensive mod is to replace your sway bar bushings and end links with poly.

Whichever way you go, post some pics when it is all done.

Later,
Schultzy

i went with the pro-kit only because the spring rate is better. sportlines are alot stiffer when a spring shouldn't be. i cut 1/2 a coil off the fronts and it lowered the car perfect.

ghhtp did a write up on the two and said that the pro-kit was the better choice, then they added by modifiying them 1/2 a coil it lowered them just right and actually made it ride better.

so that's what i did, along with replacing all the parts stated above and new bilstein shocks and struts the car rides like a dream and looks lower than the sportlines.

it actually went 2 1/4 in the front and 1 3/4 in the back from what it was stock, it looks perfect.

I have heard many many good things about the rates of the Pro Kit for my type of application and went with them for my car. I installed them as-is. I plan on visiting road courses on rare occasions but the car is primarily a street car (that I tend to drive rather aggressively ).

I just put my springs in last week so I don't have pics of it yet. I also really don't know exactly how much it lowered it from stock as I have shaved many pounds off the car (mostly in the front) and the stock springs were sagging in the rear big time (see my site for pics of the 'nose high' look it exhibited before).

I also put on some 17x9 5 spoke rims at the same time so the car looks dramatically different and it is hard to judge how much it dropped. But it settled down after I drove it around the block and reparked it in the storage facility (my friends heated garage.... it is still winter around here ......) and it appears to be around an inch lower than stock. I personally love how it sits now and really would not want it any lower. I feel that dropping it too much is just not feasible for a mostly street driven car as you are just going to be doing your best to keep Summit in business ordering pans and exhaust every other day (well.... maybe not every other day ).

I have ridden in quite a few third and fourth gens with Pro Kits in them and I really like the ride as well - fairly stiff when pushed, but still will absorb a bump to some extent without dislodging your spleen.

I also would consider a fully adjustable setup with the kit from www.ground-control.com if you are really brave (it has all linear springs). The handling with those will be second to none with some tuning and good shock/struts and you can adjust the ride height (corner weights) til the cows come home...... The ride will also be about as harsh as bobb-tailing a 5 Ton tractor. I was going to go with this kit but decided against it after riding in a friends 4th gen with linear springs.... You just don't appreciate a progressive spring on the street until it is taken away from you..... But it is an option and the kit runs about $450 for all four corners and it is fully adjustable with spanner sleeves in the rear and jack screws in the front (a-la NASCAR, except you go through the center of the lower control arm).

Well, there is my $.02 on this, and some more info for ya.....

Laterzzzz,
Matt
