Engine stared.....pedal hits floorboard..??

hello.. my car has been in the garage all winter...so ideciced to pull it out ....after touching up the paint and cleaning it i pulled it back in the garage...a few days later i did a car rebuild. I went to back it out again AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE.......soo.....i have no brakes when the booster is hooked up.....if i unhook it the brakes work a little..hard to push....

so i went and got a new m/c bench bled it ...installed it....the brakes where firm....i started the car , and the pedal went to the floor again.....rear adjusters are fine.....

how could this happen overnight????????? it doesnt make sense

i need to get this car on the road SOON..

any help would be awsome guys...i'm going CRAZY....

I bet you've still got a big air bubble somewhere in the system. Try this; somehow, find pipe plugs to fill the ports on the master cylinder. If you get a firm pedal after that, the air is somewhere after the m/c (prop valve, brake lines, etc). If you still get an easy pedal, there's some air in the m/c. If you want a bitchin' tool for pressure bleeding, you can get the Phoenix Injector at http://www.brakebleeder.com - you can pressure bleed the m/c directly. I bought the V12 model and LOVE it! In fact if you search this board (upper right corner of this screen), you might find my old messages about getting "No pedal".

I was getting a hard pedal with the car off, and as soon as I turned the car on, I'd get a "whoosh" and the pedal would sink to the floor. Turned out that first I got a bad rebuilt m/c, and the second one was a bit better. Then, I still had air in the damn thing. Does your BRAKE light come on?

yep........i start the car.....then the pedal goes to the floor with a swoosh..BUT NO BRAKE LIGHT comes on.......i'm exchanging the m/c today... i do have a tiny amount of brake power when i disconnect the booster..

if it is the booster..i can get one from the junkyard for 40 bucks....can i just simply take off my dash cover....and unboldt it from there....plop the new one in....and be on my way??

the booster is a pain to replace, but doable.

You pull the master cylinder.

Remove the driver seat (makes things much easier)

lay in the floor and unbolt the 4 nuts that holt the booster in from under the dash.

If you're using a combination wrench to do this, it's a pain. It will help to remove the gas pedal so you can reach up around the inboard side of the column...
