when my fathter was taking off the front struts he somehow managed to break the top of th strut tower. were could i find a complete essembly for the strut tower. to explain what i am talking about. it is the part that you unscrew to take the front strut off. the whole top assembly is what is broken.thanks

 

What exactly did you break? the top of the strut? The strut mount plate? The actual tower itself? I can't tell from your post.

 

If your car has alot of miles it is best that you replace it anyways. With alot of miles on it the strut going up and down and large ammounts of stress on it, it can wear and cause the struts to have play when going up and down. They went over it in a section of gmhtp when they did the suspention up grades to their third gen formula.

 

well it is the black assebly on the top... the entire thing is so messed up, plate dust cover and the whole black thing. but does anyone know where to go to get one is do i have to go to the junk yard. thanks for the replys guys

 

I've seen the whole strut tower assembly, the peice that adjust when getting your front end aligned,they go for around $200. each or some insane amount. not sure where I saw it. It was on an on-line parts store. Try www.expressautoparts.com , www.Wrenchead.com or www.carparts.com

 

Monroe makes them. 90.00 ea any parts store.Get your front end lined up after the change.

 

They sell the enire "black" assembly or the strut upper mount. They have a bearing in there that wears out. I would replace both sides though. Here in Texas the chepest was O'Reiley's Parts I think it was about $60. Shop/call around for different prices. YOU WILL need an alighment after replacement. Also there is the easy way and the hard way to replce them. Put a jack under the front control arms and raise or lower to change the strut angle when you are trying to remove and install the strut top back in.

If you do have an O'reillys autoparts in your area get the price from another another company that will give you a price on a lifetime warrenty and take a quote to O'reillys and get them to give you the moog (if they have them in stock) for the same price as the parts you priced from the other parts store. The only thing they dont' come with is the top cover but your top cover can probably be reused but if not go to your local u-pullit and get some off another car in their stock.

 

what you broke was the strut mount not the strut tower. If it were the tower we would be talking body/frame damage, what you broke is a suspention component. They go for around 75-100 for a direct replacement.

What 91B2L was talking about are the same type mount but is a high performance piece which allows more adjustment over the stock pieces. They are usually a solid mount without the rubber cusion like stock and some allow more suspension travel. These types usually go for around 200.
