Heating up to 250 before fan - what can I do?

Had my SLP headers installed this week, and the previous owner had disconnected the temp cycling switch located in the block. With the new headers on, the switch was rerouted to the new thermostat housing.

I just got the car, so I've never driven it in the heat, so I don't know if it's always been this way, but I don't want the engine cooking to 250 before the fan kicks on and brings it below 200.

Is there a way to stop this? Is the Jet fan switch a solution? It gets hot in Houston in the summer...

well, i did this ... Manual Fan Switch.
About 6 bucks from radio shack and a bit of inguinity and I made it so my temp switch works still, but i have the power to turn it on at will. My car never heats up past the midpoint on the guage anymore ..

i agree do the manual fan switch, it works very well, i just turn it on in town and turn it off on the highway( a lighted switch also helps)

Cool. Thanks - now I have another item on the list, but this one's gonna take priority over others.

i also recommend at least a 180* stat. i just changed to a 160* today from a 180* and i like it alot better. also a jet fan switch is an option if you dont want to worry about flipping a switch while driving

I hooked my manual fan switch to the airconditioners fan switch next to the acumilater( the aluminum cyclinder that sweats). This way it will run the fan any time the ignition is on. I have a manual switch on my 86 IROC than will turn the fan on anytime and I forgot to turn it off one day while I was eating a BK whopper, When I got back in the car to go home it didn't have the power to start the engine. I also have a switch to unlock the converter or should I say to keep it from locking when I don't want it to. It helps a lot around town when you don't want the hunting for the right gear hassle going on.
