Someone please help me!
Hey everyone, I am looking to get the best performance I can possibly get for $1000 canadian. Right now I have 3.73's, and 3 inch exhaust. I guess my next modification will have to be to the engine and I have no idea what to do. I'm mainly looking for straight line performance and any mods I do I want them to be safe and still allow my engine to run normally with good gas mileage. What does everyone think I should do?
It's a 92 305tbi
thanks!

You hear a lot of....
You hear a lot of intake/exhaust.... I agree to a degree.
Maybe you should consider replacing the camshaft.
That will wake up your car considerably.
Make sure it is a computer compatible camshaft. I went with a flat tappet, but then again, I went with an entire new motor.
A nice hydraulic cam replacement with a nice desireable lift will make all the difference in the world. Your engine does have a relatively small hydraulic roller in it. If you got a cam with decent lift and it communicates with the computer well, I am sure you will be very pleased with the result.

If I went with the cam, I heard I would have to buy all new lifters, pushrods, and valve springs or else my engine will be to weak on the top end or bottome end(i cant remember)? Is this true, or can I just buy the cam shaft that is compatible with my computer?
and how much would this hurt my gas mileage??

Get the cam and lifters at least. It would be an excellent start. If you're inside the motor, you can do all the other little things too. Maybe new rockers if you want, don't make it too extreme, or you will be suffering financially as well as gas mileage.
The cam I have in my car gets me roughly 15 MPG city and about 20-25 on the highway. The engine is larger too.
I believe it would be an excellent starting point.
Then work on the intake/exhaust system. Get the engine to breathe.
Once past those two obstacles, you will be very happy.

if they are roller lifters you can reuse em more than likely.......the pr and vs depend on how much more lift than stock your going to go..........someone else can give you the exact numbers as im still learning
I don't know how things in Canada are price wise but if your not in a hurry you could probably find some good deals on used (305tpi or L98 alum)heads and an LT1 cam and still have enough money left over for a new intake and headers if you don't already have them.

Steve hit the main ones that you need. Intake, heads, cam and headers. The cheaper parts (used LT1 cam, 305 tpi heads) will give you more bang for the buck.

The 350 heads if cast iron have larger combustion chambers that will lower your compression ratio.
If they are the Vette aluminum heads they have the same size combustion chamber as the 305 heads
There are some members running the alum heads on 305's

I would go with some 305 TPI heads, their are some 305s on the TPI board running 13s on these heads. Just get the Standard Abrasives porting kit and do a little work on them. As for the cam you are going to get a lot of opinions on which cam to use. Most would say go with the LT1 cam but IMO if you are going to go through the trouble of a cam swap put something bigger in their. For the cost though the LT1 cam can't be beat
