Question w/ IAT, open element filter & poor throttle response

As the subject says; my problem lies with an SES light (constantly lit) and poor throttle response. The worst problem is a severe bog that sometimes kills the engine when revving or @ WOT.

This arose following open element install. I tried wiring in a 7.5Kohm resistor, I tried leaving the IAT open, but nothing has seemed to work thus far.

Any opinions?

MILT

Thanks, MILT.

I just had my headers back put on, then put on a 14x3 open element. All ran great until last Sunday - WOT and it just bogged down. I removed the air cleaner and drove home (3 mins away, Thank ***) without it. Once I removed it though, the car kicked right on over and off I went.

What the hell happened? I'm at a loss.

Check to make sure your open air element isn't grounding something - I spent 3 weeks and about 15 fuses on a wild goose chase before a friend just took it off and it ran fine. Mine was grounding against one of the injector wires.

Re: Question w/ IAT, open element filter & poor throttle response

Well, I was searching for anything related to the IAT/MAT... I've been putting my 90 RS back together slowly over the past year... it's my DD, and the guy who had it before me just started plugging hoses and deleting systems rather than fixing them. It *did* run, just not near as well as it should have... so I've been slowly re-introducing systems back into the whole system, and since I'm no mechanic, it's been quite an experience. I've gotten it down to one SES code left, 23, which deals with the IAT/MAT... I found the wires that plug into it, but the sensor itself wasn't with the car when I bought it, I don't believe... so I'm trying to figure out what it looks like. I work at a NAPA store, and when I looked it up in our computer, it showed three options... one of them is a rectangular assembly, which i've seen before, but won't work with the plug in my car, one of them listed is actually the coolant temp sensor, and the third looks similar to the coolant temp sensor, except it has a cage on the end with a little filament of sorts inside it... I'm assuming the third is what I need, but I was trying to find pictures. Unsuccessfully. :P

Re: Question w/ IAT, open element filter & poor throttle response

this is when I had it mounted in the powercharger you can see the filiment this is a different sensor. I have a Niehoff part # of FE625 you should be able to interchange that to napa brand if it is what you needed

oh and btw I have a stock one pictured and an aftermarket one of that part # if they seem to be what you need and you cant find one ill sell you one cheap.

Re: Question w/ IAT, open element filter & poor throttle response

I found one at NAPA... had to order it, but it should be in tomorrow. Thanks though - it does look (somewhat) similar to the pictures here. Guess I'll throw it in and see if the code still sets off after the engine warms up.

Re: Question w/ IAT, open element filter & poor throttle response

Just as an update for you, UnderCover, i put in the IAT, and it could be my imagination, but my car felt like it drove so much better and actually had a little more juice afterwards... best of all, no check engine light (after a 120 mile drive north!)
