Spark Plugs (Reading them)

I just got done letting my car run until operating temperature and then took one of my plugs out on the driver side to see if I was running rich or lean. I pull the plug out and the electrode is a tanish color but the screw in part below that had like oil on it or something. It was not dark but it was a light brown and it was in the threads. Any idea what would be causing that? Do I have a bad O-ring or something and its leaking oil into the cumbustion chamber? Oh and after I ran my car I opened my throttle blades and like not smoke but some greyish smoke stuff came out. Not a lot but it just kinda misted out. What is that all about too? Thanks

Sh*t. I think it might be my valve seals. Now that I remember, this morning I got a small cloud of blue smoke when I started the car and I noticed its been doing that for a little while now. Its gotta be my valve seals. How hard are those to replace?

how many niles on ur car? u sure its not the piston rings? first do a compression check and see if 1 or 2 cylinders are losing a lot of compression. if so, u may have bad piston rings. valve seals will also cause smoke and are not very difficult to change. first u gotta move everything out of the way that will not let u take the valve covers off (diverter valve, fuel lines bolted to manifold, etc.) and then take off the rocker arms noting their position so they can go back where they came from. then when u do each valve, crank the engine till that piston is at tdc and remove the spark plug. get some compressed air in there so when the spring is compressed the valve wont fall through when the keepers are removed. the valve will just float up then. but u gotta use a spring compressor (they have ones that work by letting u screw them onto the rocker arm studs), comress the spring, remove the keepers, remove the spring, remove the old seal(s), and putting everything back is the same way as taking it out except u have to put the keepers on after the spring is compressed. then to put the rocker arms back on, tighten the rocker arms until the pushrod can barely be turned by the hand. then one at a time, crank the engine till the valve being adjusted is fully open and then turn the adjusting nut another half turn more and that should be it. takes a while to adjust them..at least for me cuz i have full rollers. anything else i am missing anyone else wants to add? anymore questions email me. later

I think I am gonna replace them when I do my cam and intake swap in June. I have to replace my valve springs anyways when I do that. Thanks so much though, I will print this out for sure.

while ur at a cam/intake, if u got money do the heads too. stock heads dont flow for s**t. its not hard once u remove the rocker arms. just a bunch of bolts hilding the heads to the block. well worth it though..cam/heads/intake at once will be a big kick in the ***..u'll think its a whole new car.

No money for heads and I don't have a custom e-prom burning stuff so I know it would run like sh*t. Plus I still have the stock TB. I did the ulitmate tbi mods, added an injector spacer and AFPR but I doubt it will flow enough for aftermarket heads.
