vortec 305

About what hp am i looking at if i install vortec heads milled to 58cc, Performer vortec and the holley 670 tbi. I`m looking at doing this or switching to a 350 from sdpc and installing a stealth ram and painless wiring. The 305 has over 172000 miles on it and a leaking valve seal.  :hail:

I would estimate close to 300hp or a little over.

Would it keep about the same gas mileage as it does now ( 21 mpg). It`ll be a hell of alot cheaper than switching to a 350 with the same hp.

what?? You really think it would make over 300 hp? I would guess the heads to be worth 35-40 hp, the intake to be worth 10 or so and the TB to be another 5-10. I would guess that to put it into the 240 MAYBE 250, put a good exhaust on and it would be a solid 250- 260, no more than that!! And yeah, gas mileage should stay about the same.

Would a cam swap get it closer to 300 hp after all the mods because all I want is about 300 hp after it`s all finished.

Oh yeah with a cam swap, sorry I just kinda assumed that you were changing the camshaft since it's so puny.

how much power increase could be seen without the camshaft? I am thinking of a similar swap and eeprom.. I am basicly getting it ready for a new short block 350 however so I won't mill down the heads.

just thinking... not certain yet!

a 305 with just the l4t (not the hot version), milled vortec heads, rpm intake and large TB is good for 280 maybe 290hp. That's not a whole long considering the work of having to remove, install heads, gaskets etc but it's a LOT for a 305 TBI.
I wonder how much power those heads are worth on a completely stock Lo3 with stock intake and TB, hmm....would be very interesting to do the mods in stages but backwards . Install heads, then intake (manifold and TB) and then cam. This way you could see what a difference the heads make compared to the crappy stock swirl heads! Oh well, when I become rich and famous (or just rich) I'll do something like that.

Doing that mod would get a stock 170hp 305 TBI engine to push 250-300hp?!?! Where do I get the parts?! I hate that my 5.0 RS does 0-60 in 8 seconds, thats slower than a 3.8 mustang for pete's sake!

This could be done with a 670 Holley and a custom chip I'm sure.

SDPC has a vortec head kit for about $800 that includes the intake, heads, gaskets, bolts and rockers.
