head questions-please read

I have a 91 bird with 305tbi, I installed an edelbrock performertbi intake, and crane compucam, I just got a set of heads for free, but they are 84 305 H.O. heads w 1.94's, my question is other than valve covers of course will they bolt right in with no probs?, the pushrods and bolt patterns (head and intake) are the same right? I hope so, cus they would really liven up my bird, and take better advantage of the cam and intake, then get some headers for her. plus i am unemployed and will probably never afford a set of good heads. thanx in advance guys.

they would not be much of a gain. our stock heads get a much worse rap than they deserve, but 80's smog heads are not much of an improvement, if any at all.

You have your hands on a set of 416 castings which came on all third generation 82-86 305s (LG4/L69/LB9). Those heads come with 1.84/1.50 valves, so unless they've been changed, those are the valve sizes. These heads respond hugely to pocket porting and polishing. Do yourself a favor and spend some time on these heads.

They are an improvement over the TBI 187 heads, which will not give you the most power with your new cam. The 187 heads are restricting the cam's full potential.

Unfortunately the intake pattern is different. The 416's have a the pre 86 pattern and the 187 heads have the 87-95 pattern.

also these heads are not from a thirdgen, they came out of an 84 elcamino conquista, with the high output 305 w/4 barrel. they have the 1.94 valve markings on them. either way they are bound be something better than what i got, besides my heads that are on the car need to be rebuilt anyways. I'd like to hear some more opinions on the subject? Also seeing as i have the performer intake, if i'm gonna change the intake to match the heads, what one do you guys think would be a good choice. I was thinking maybe an rpm one, but need some input on good choices. thanx again guys.

The performer intake that you have can be made to work by elongating the four center bolt holes, then they will match the heads.
