New Owner - 92 RS (305 TBI 5 Speed)
New Owner - 92 RS (305 TBI 5 Speed)
Hey guys...my name is Mark Gonzales "Gonzo" and I'm the owner of The F-Body Hideout which is a world-wide all Generation F-Body site.
I've owned my 97 Z since it came off the assembly line and have played with it performance and appearance wise ever since.
I've recently purchased a 92 RS 305 TBI and I'm looking for your advice on what I should be working on to get more out of this motor without spending an arm and a leg.
Here are some pics of the 92 RS I picked up. I had no idea that those rims were actually white under all that dirt and grime....man, what a difference a little wash can do....
Still need to get the rear repaired.
After building up my 355 LT4 for my 97, I have a couple of parts off of my old LT1 that I would like to know if they can be of any use to this 305.
The parts I have on hand are an LT1 Intake and a set of LT1 heads.
I'll be pulling the A/C and all the emissions equipment off of the motor to clear up for space.
What mods do you guys recommend my doing with this new addition to the family?

The heads unfortunately will not work. Block is different.
The cam and the intake (with some modification, check out www.lt1intake.com) will work well.
If you re-use the intake manifold, you will have to switch over to Tuned Port Injection (Speed Density would be best), and modify the manifold to work. Check the link.
The cam will go right in. You will have to cut the dowel pin to match the cam that comes out.
If you want anything serious out of the motor, the heads will have to go. They are some of worst castings GM has put out.
There are a bunch of little tricks out there. Stock these things run mid to low 16's. Mine is running a bit faster. Feel free to check out my webpage, and email me with any questions...

I know this is off topic, but when is the next video coming out???
I have seen the first two, and definately sweat the **** out of your 4th gen.
Good luck with your RS. That will be one sweet ride even if it only turns out half as nice as your 97 Z.

I was incorrect. They can bolt up. You will have to modify the heads.

Thanks guys for the responses....
Hmmmm, well the truth here is that I'm not sure if this is what's called a TBI system. It's just what another friend told me. So, I'm still educating myself.
How will I know if this is a TBI system?
After decoding my VIN, here is what I got:
Made in: United States
Manufacturer: General Motors
Make: Chevrolet
Carline Code: F-Body
Carline Series: Camaro (all models)
Body Type: 2 door coupe (hatchback)
Restraint System: Manual belts (driver inflatable)
Engine Code: 305 ci V8 L03 (1988-1992)
2 is the CHECK DIGIT
Model Year: 1992
Assembly Plant: Van Nuys
Production Sequence: 106909
Thanks gang...

If you undo the wingnut on the air cleaner to get to the filter, you will see two injectors sitting over a throttle body. It is a wet flow system, sort of like carbueration, except more precise. Not a port-injected vehicle like TPI, or your LT1.

Joe, who is really the "mastermind" behind the videos is wrapping up Part III on the video. We tried to round up a group of Third Gens to be part of the filming but we got little to no response from the 3rd Gen community....which saddened me.

At any rate, we are looking at releasing Part III next month. I'll put the word out as soon as it hits the streets.

And thanks for the compliments on my Z. Those same rims that you see pictured in my sig for the Z (Enkei V1 Series) will be mounted on my RS as I'm now running Weld Drag Lites on the Z with skinnies up front to lower some weight.

I dont know where you were looking for Third Gen's to be in the video, but if you would have posted here, then I could almost guarantee AT LEAST 5 or 6 of us who would love to beat on our cars for a bit.
Ah, oh well ... there's always next time.
Hey, maybe we could just get together a thirdgen video.
HMmmmmmm..........

Well, all is not lost yet in us adding more 3rd Gens to the video.
I have no idea in what forum I should post about getting video clips from our 3rd Genners or possibly getting a local group in MD/VA to gather up for a video shoot....
Where can I post this at so we can either add the clips to Part III or add the clips to Part IV?

I'd love to participate.
Im in VA. DC is only a few hours away. Would be cool to come up and burn some rubber.
Here's my car;

Since that main picture, I have tinted my windows 35% on the doors, and 20% on the rear hatch, Trans Am Tailights, and have a different hood with a cowl scoop.
Let me know.

Clint, looking good...
I'm actually living now in Springfield, VA. Maybe we can work on a date to get some footage of your ride to add to the videos. Hit me up on email....

I don't know if you noticed or not but the tail lights are wrong, on the left there is a two tear tail light and on the right is a three tear tail light. The one that is correct for your year is the one on the right, the three tear tail light. I know it's off topic but it bugged me
take care, and good luck with your TBI
take care, and good luck with your TBI I believe he's talking about my ride....
Yes, I do know that the left taillight is wrong. It's actually from a 91 and the one on the right is correct. He was quick to point that out to me....he said he just needed a light in there for inspection purposes with the state of Maryland.
No biggie.... I'll try to sell this light. Thanks though.
