New shift points?
New shift points?
I get the car back tonight with the LT1 cam installed!!
I heard that the LT1 cam can make it possible to shift higher when racing. Right now my car shifts at 4500 rpm when I floor it (its an auto). Would it be better to shift above that now because the cam can handle it, or will this hurt my engine?
I also read I will lose some low end power but will make it up past 5000 rpm so should I shift above 4500 rpm?

Yes I guess so. You need to really play with the car when you get it back. Rev it up and shift it, shift early; see what works the best with the new cam. I'm hoping you got the springs changed with the cam.
Yeah I got new springs, push rods, seals, gaskets, and timing chain with the cam.
It is safe to rev it up past 4500 rpm though?? there isn't a chance I can blow the engine doing that is there?

Yeah heads will really wake up the L03.
If you're willing to spend the money, Vortecs are the best way to go. They're cheap to buy, but to make them work you need to mill them and get a Vortec specific pattern to fit the heads.
Next choice would be the World S/R 305 Torquers. Excellent heads and will benefit hugely from mild porting and polishing. Very reasonably priced too.
If you're really on a budget you could pick up '416' castings from LG4/L69/LB9 and port them a lot. And I mean a lot.

Just a suggestion-invest $40 for a MSD coil. Stock coils generally start to lose their voltage output between 4,500-5,000 rpm. I still have the stock cam and use the MSD coil and shift at 5,500rpm when racing. I have an auto as well, and shifting into 2nd at 5,500 really helps because it keeps you in a better part of the power band. It should deffinetely help with that LT1 cam in there. Let us know on how it turns out!!!
