Dual snorkel or headers?

My dad is letting me do one last mod to my car, he says I can either put on a dual snorkel air cleaner, or a set of headers. Whats best for performance and what will happen to my gas mileage with each?

Oh yeah, where would I buy a dual snorkel air cleaner and if I find a used one would it be good to use or should I buy new? And how hard is it to install?
thanks!

Definitely get the headers and get rid of that embarassment of a stock exhaust. You'll see huge hp gains when you swap the 1 7/8" outlet manifolds and disgusting Y-pipe. Headers will work very nicely with your LT1 cam.

Not really, the headers will probably help your gas mileage a bit even because the engine will become more efficient because it will be able to evacuate exhaust gases a lot quicker.

You keeping the emmissions stuff? Id get edelbrock TES...youll get a good y pipe and it will bolt directly up with your stock cat.

I have full 3 inch exhaust from the engine back, does that include the Y pipe?
are headers cheaper without the Y pipe?

Is there a big seat of the pants feeling with the headers? and did you have any problems with making a dual snorkel air cleaner?

it really depends on your engine and your other mods with headers. i instaled my 357 with headers on them already so i dont know how much differance they actualy made. but i also only had the STOCk cat back on it,, and after i changed that out,,,wow what a differance!!! if visual emissions arnt a problem, get the heddman headers with there y pipe. wont cost you more than 225 american.

the dual snorkle.....umm the only problems i had was trying to clean out all the surface rust before i started. the air cleaner was just sitting in a garage for a while and got really dirty. but its very easy to make one, check out the tech articles. all i did was read that over a few times to get the general idea, then looked at what supplies i had and went from there. the tech article said to use rivits....well i ran out of rivits and couldnt find the rivit gun so i used JB WELD...works great!! i dont know whats beter though...dual snorkle..or open??? not sure. i dont have any of that ducting tube going up to the headlights to bring in cold air, so its basicly acting like a open element....so i might swap to a open..not sure yet!

They've been pretty good so far, his only main rule so far is everything HAS to be stainless, my exhaust will last me the rest of my life atleast lol
But I don't think there's much more I could do besides headers without killing my gas mileage because my cam swap and gears hurt it pretty bad. So I don't mind if this is my last mod.

Your gears are alittle overkill for your motor. You probably would have seen better results with 3.42s. You mid as well replace the intake and get a open element.

Just a question, I dont know if in my country anyone do the ceramic coating but im shure the chrome stuff, will this have the same protective effect? Or there is no substitute for the ceramic coating as it help to reduce the temperature of the headers and protect it against corrossion?

Thanks

I want to know if those heddman hedders are good for our cars, the y Pipe look much better than the stock one but this thing (Y pipe and hedders) fit right in our cars? the Y pipe cost a little less than $100 and the hedders cost a little more than $100 in summit.

I made the mistake of getting hooker comp headers. They do not come with a y pipe. So I had one made at the local shop. Looks horrible but i didnt relize how bad it is until i had it off today. It is really really really bad. The stock y pipe look MUCH better. I probably lost power after adding that crappy y pipe.

Why if heddman is so cheap everybody talks about hooker and slp are those brand-models much better, I know SLP´s are stainless steel, and hooker is a well know brand, but are those much better than a ceramic coated heddman?

Thanks

There is a huge difference as the SLP cost almost 400$$ with the Y pipe and the Heddman + the y pipe is a little less than 250$$

Oh, the SLP's are a dream. They look awesome with the ceramic coating, adn they-pipe is 2 pieces. And it's all stainless!

SLP is expensive.. hookers are good, but NO Y-pipe.

Fattie92...

Fattie92 I dont know if there is something wrong with them I know they have a very good price thats all, so Im consedering my options I want to know if they are good or not, they fit, the quality, etc.... I know they are not stainless Steel so they will rust if you dont coat them...

How good they fit, did you used the hardware they include? (They include everything you need to install them)

I dont have a Cat, so I will need something to bolt the straight tube to the Y pipe (Some Sort of Fitting) as I dont want to weld this together.

How You will make true duals?

I think the best way would be Two tubes from the headers to the Cat place, putting before this place an H pipe or X pipe, then dual bullet mufflers and from there to before the axle or to the rear using 3" oval tubes.

Well good luck on your project.

Thanks for any info you can give me on the heddman Hedders

the heddmans come with everything you need. all the bolts and gaskets, all you need is tools. mine fit in pretty good, but then again i swapped them in when i put my new engine in. but i ended up having to take the drivers side out after i got the engine in, but it just takes some fiddling around to get it around the steering shaft. i did bend my brake lines for added comfort also. they are great headers for the cash. if you get the uncoated ones,, make sure you put some hi temp spray paint on them.....as forthe cat, i just put a cut out and a striaght pipe in there and U clamped it all togeather.

now my dual plan... i was just gonna buy the hooker comp headers, get them in and look to see how it all looks. ill probly just bolt on some glasspacks to them for a little bit while i plan everything out. im either gonna go TRUE dual... or run a X pipe, and have it dump out infront of the rear wheels. the true duals will be easier probly, but i think the X pipe will give me more toruqe... but casue me installation and clearance issues.right out of the collecter i think i might go to a 2.5 inch pipe to help accomidate the clearance problem....well see
