To my 3rd gen bretheren. I would like to know what would be the best set of heads for a 305. I am about to rebuild my 305. I have thought about a 350 but that just seems to much right now. Do they make vortecs for the LO3? Give me what you guys got?

The L31 vortecs are a great head, even for the 305, but they will require modifications to run a cam over .470" lift. I was originally going to get a set of vortecs off ebay, but I ran into a person selling World torquer 305s and bought them.

 

I went the Vortec route. When I got the heads they were milled .020" and had the right machine work to run about a .520" lift cam. They were a little more than I wanted to pay for used Vortecs, but I figured if I didnt have to get them milled and I could use them on a mild 350 it would be worth it. Your intake manifold choices are also limited, Edelbrock makes 3 carb ones, GM makes a TBI one, and Im not sure about Holley, but the cheapest Vortec manifold is the Performer and that's $170.

I really wish i could give you track times but I leave for school tomorrow and I think the first time I'll be able to run it is mid Sept.
