Oil Stains....

Ok, I know this question is not a direct TBI related question and I don't see an area that this would fit in, however we have all experienced this: Parents getting mad, wife's getting mad, etc....

How in the heck do you get stains off of the concrete garage floor?!?!?!?

I have tried everything that I can think of. The last thing I just tried was using a pressure washer (rated at 2500 PSI). It did remove the surface layer but there is still stains.

Anybody have a solution that works?

Thanks,
Mike

I've had good luck with lacquer thinner, followed up with Coca-Cola. No kidding, Coke.

The cheapest cat litter you can get a hold of. Get a healthy amount and put on some sneakers cause it's time to dance. Just ground in the litter into the oil and it'll soak it up. Sweep it up to be recycled during the next oil change then vacuum.

There's a product called "Oil Lift" around here and for the stains that have been set in for awhile, it usually removes them quite well.

I uhh accidently spilled a lot of quarts of transmission oil on the garage floor when I pulled my engine and kitty litter cleaned it up. Ground it up, then let it sit for about 3 days and swept it right up.

Kitty Litter - got plenty of that stuff. Fresh 'spills' I can get, it's those damn stains that have sat there for a long time soaking in.

Iroc22 - You say "OUT HERE". Where's that and does the company have a website or were do you by it?

Thanks to all you guys!!! (Now, maybe, I can calm the wife down a bit if I can get rid of these stains! It would be nice to sleep in the bed again instead of the dog house :lala: :lala: )

Later,
Mike

Well, yes... we do know who owns the garage. But when the garage is the primary entrance to the house and the first room you walk into is the kitchen, we know who owns that room and that's the first room that get's all the oil and grease marks from the shoes which, of course, was tracked in from the garage.

I swear, sometimes us guys can't win!!!

...ahhhh i see, i dont have that problem. i have the problem of the garage being to full to get my car into and i work on it in the driveway and the driveway is all ****ed up from me now. my tranny desided to bleed out all its fluid onto it and im still trying to find something to get it out!!!

P.S!! DONT EVER EVER buy the concrete cleaner rom auto zone!!! it is the biggest peice of crap in the world. i was pouring it out and LEAVES fell out of the bottle!! they must have used leaves as a stuffer to make the bottle more full. i think the brand is "Coastal"

If you use a degreaser with a high pH it will saponify the oil (turn it into soap) which then can be washed away with water. High-pH-stable surfactants in the degreaser will allow it to wick down into the pores of the concrete.

There are products like this on the market, Purple Stuff or the Right Stuff are a couple names that come to mind. There are various oven cleaners too that are based on this idea. Make sure that you use eye and skin protection with this type of product.

You might need to repeat the treatment and always remember to try a product like this in a small inconspicuous area first.
