I am rebuilding an LO5 with stock heads. I want to put in the ZZ4 cam. My question is can I do it with stock valve springs, Stock Lifters, Stock rocker arms, and stock push rods?

I will be replacing the heads later with AFR, but wanted to go ahead and get the cam in so I don't have to take EVERYTHING off next fall when I put on the AFR's.

I think the L05 is flat tappet where the ZZ4 is a roller cam. If you get roller lifters you should be good to go though.

PaulD ("guy" as he is known to my 3 year old) is correct so long as the LO5 is from a car. GM car v8s got roller lifters from 1988 if memory serves. But the truck LO5 versions didn't. If it's a truck LO5, then it will be flat tappet. Truck sbc didn't get them until the L31 for the 1996 model year. HTH. - Ken

Thanks Chief, I wasn't sure if the truck motor was called an L05 or not.

Hope you had a good weekend. I started the Trans-go installation last night. As usual, nothing is easy. I'm going to have to remove the passenger side cat for access to the servo. Oh joy.
