Open Element

Does anyone know if you can buy an open element air filter unit that will work with the stock emissions equipment?

Thanks for the info but what I meant was I wanted to replace the whole air cleaner assy. but I still wanted to keep the emissions on the car. Will replacing the assy. cause the check engine light to come on?

Nope, the only thing your gonna loose is the heat riser which does nothing in the first place. Get a 14x3 non-drop base open element asembly and your set. You will also need to get a push in PCV filter.

NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS! NO ERROR CODES! NO PROBLEMS!

Best mod you can start off with

It's been ten years since I lived in CA but as I recal open elements didn't pass because when the canister purges it pulls to clear air cleaner and carb. Hang on to your original equip.

Thank *** I don't live in California. I am originally from Tenn. and I plan to keep the car registered there since they have no emissions test.

Yep in CA, I have to put the stock air cleaner on for 1 day every other year for Emissions Testing.

Man that blows, I lived in california in old town Sandiego for a little over a year but never had to worry about getting the car registered there. Don't plan on going back simply because of that. I am still trying to keep the car emissions legal for some reason though. I want to use the computer for fuel inj. but I don't wanna see that stupid check engine light anymore. I wish I knew what I could take off and not effect the computer.
