question

ok if i like drive my car for a while... not real long like 30 mins+ then turn it off.... it has to sit for like an hour before it will start again... now i thought it was the "heat soak" problem from the headers but its just too ****ing cold outside for the starter to be hot for that long... so i had a question.. like when i start my car and drive i smell pretty heavy exhaust.... like what i would expect from maybe it running really rich?? but im not sure what that would smell like... And I feel like maybe the reason it wont start is because maybe it gets flooded????? i dunno i could totally be on the wrong track, i dunno... anyone help me out?

I assume it turns over when you say "it doesn't start"?

If so, maybe your injectors are leaking?

Do you hear a clicking noise when you turn the key? If so it could be the starter solenoid. If not, is the drive on the starter enguaging at all? Can you hear it spinning? have you checked/ replaced all the wires going to the starter recently? DO the lights dim when you turn the key (could be a ground or short). I dunno, there are too many variables at this point. I think you are gonna have to do some more sleuthing and get back to us with a more detailed description.

do u have a black plastic piece in your key?
if so It could be your chip in your key is worn down, not letting it contact the point on the anti theft system
mine was and i did that resistor mod and it worked
thats one thing it could be....did they have VATS in 89?

i put a toggle switch so i could arm it if i want to

NVM i think maybe it is the heat soak problem from the headers... even with it cold i think the starter gets real hot...
but just in case

no it doesnt click, it doesnt do anything when I want it to start

and I dont think its the VATS (yes I have it)

Then one of these from Summit would do the trick... Price is $20. Summit p/n SUM-G1370 or SUM-G1369 for the unpolished version (but they are the same price).
