TBI Cleaning and maintaince
I have a '89 Police Caprice with the 350 and wanna know how to clean the throttle body? I know how to do it but want to know if theres anything I should know first. The motor is rebuilt stock by the company but i don't know about the TB. The odometer shows 271,351 today as it sits outside in the driveway. I know the motor ,trans, and rearend have been done. Not bad for $400 and the only thing i have to do is gas it up and go. But it bogs somewhat and when I was changing the air filter to K&N I noticed that the Throttle Body could use some cleaning, i'm talking about the injectors and the body. Is there anything I should know?
start teh car adn rev the engien as you spray carb cleaner into it.
care and feedign of tbi is not much different than a carb fo rthe most part. just have to check a few sensors once in a while and make sure whatever mechanic had his hands on it last didn't set the timing wrong.

That many miles on a stock fuel pump could be a reson for a slight bog. A bog is usually a lean condition, a stumble is too much advance, rough is usually rich, and not enough timing is good for a fake rich gas smell and overall performance sloth. Too much retard can also cause backfires. Too much advance can cause stumbling when in closed loop, warm engine and in drive at a stop light. Pin-point that bog. I just spent about $35 for everything including gauge to locate a 0-30 psi fuel pressure gauge to my windshield to see what the fuel pressure was doing when I went WOT or when fuel demand needed to be quick. The slightest drop in fuel pressure with a TBI system can through things way out of wack. A drop of like 3 psi is like dropping 10+psi with a TPI system!!!
Carb cleaner is a good idea if the PCV is still used and the IAC can always use a cleaning with that many miles on it.
You might want to replace the PCV while you're at it.
It doesn't suprise me that TBI lasts so long. It's 2 huge peak and hold injectors running with low fuel pressure. They fire twice as often as the batch fire systems but they're designed for such long term abuse. I have yet to find any "bad" TBI injectors, only bad fuel pumps and crappy PCV

. Ok thanks guys oh and. .
Thanks for the tips. I thought i would have to takeoff the TB for the cleaning like I was told. I work at GM dealership ( Parts Department) here in Phoenix and they said I could take it off and clean the injectors too. Anyway I'm thinking of AR-767 for rims (15x7), 2.5 single to dual exhaust, some accell wires. a buch of things.
