vortec heads and header ?
vortec heads and header ?
Just wonder what you guys with voretcs are running for headers? Are you running headers with raised ehaust runners or are you just running the standard headers? I never noticed that the exhaust ports were raised on my 60 chevy with vortecs. Guess that I just got lucky on that one.
Thanks for the responce. I always thought that they were the same till I ran acroos some info in a couple of places saying that the exhaust was raised also. Guess that when I afford new heads I will find out for sure. Thanks guys

You may have read about the D shaped exhaust ports on the fastburns which are sometimes called vortecs. I am not sure if the exhaust ports of the cast iron vortecs are D shaped. Maybe someone can tell me.
I saw an aluminum adapter plate designed to run the cast iron vortecs with the standard headers. When I built my 1960 chevy with vortecs I used standard headers and it seems to work fine but it is in VA and I am in Cali so I cant go look for sure. The reason I am wondering is that I have been working on the plans for my 89 LO5 truck and I think that vortecs are going on here when the money arrives. I just won the auction on my LT1 cam on EBAY so this should make a really nice combo but I want it to all just bolt up and run with no issues. I prefer just to buy standard headers for the truck. Scoggin dickey has a crate motor set up for TPI with the vortecs and what appears to be the LT4 cam that is putting out 346 HP and 417 foot pounds. Pretty close to what I was thinking of doing so I think that this is the setup. Thanks for the responses guys.
