need help please!!!
Here it is. When i take off and start to accelerate there is a gurgling or knocking noise coming from the enging bay. It usually makes the noise when im accelerating and only when in gear. If i put it in neutral and rev the engine it sounds good. But when im accelerating it makes a loud almost like a deep gurgling sound. What can this be? Any ideas?
i think im getting the same thing from you. to me it seems like its coming from the middle part close to the firewall. what i believe my problem is, is when i reconnected my y pipe to the manifolds, it didnt connect 100% so i may have a slight exhaust leak? but its weird cause i only hear it while im in gear? onnce the car warms up it also seems lie its gone. im gonna be doing an entire new exhasut system, so after im done with that i will see if this problem persists. good luck. sorry im not that much help.

Hey guys I'm not sure but I think I had the same problem you guys are describing a few months ago, now I'm not sure if you have a 5-speed 92z28 but I think that's where the sound was coming from in my car. It sounded like it was coming from like somewhere around the flywheel or that vacinity and I could feel vibration in the shifter. I had it checked out and the mechanic couldn't find anything wrong then it just stopped doing it after a little while and now hasn't done it in like 2 months, so I'm not sure what to tell you maybe just wait it out.

With me it only happens when the car heats up. and i havent had any exhaust work done. it doesnt sound like an exhaust leak, i know because i had a bad one with my '71 Cuda. and there is no exhause smell. thought my o2 sensor or knock sensor had failed. not sure. someone else said it may be pinging caused by advanced timing.

It doesn't have anything to do with your anti-freeze does it? Water pump.?

i dont think so.. to tell you the truth, what i fear may be causing the problem is the following. i had to change my oil pan about month ago, so as you may know you gotta raise the engine.. while raising the engine we couldnt seem to get it high enough of the engine mounts from the position we were raising it from, so my dad suggested we tried raising it from the bottom of the trany pan. we tried raising it from there and it didnt help much so we lowered the jack from the tranny pan. i hope i didnt damage anything by the tranny or flywheel. i dont feel any slipping on the tranny or anything, so im still really not sure. does anyone knowledgeable think i may have caused and damage by trying to slightly raise the engine from the tranny pan?

If you didn't see any visible large dents in the tranny pan I think the only thing you could of done there is maybe mashed the tranny gasket resulting in a fluid leak. If you see no leak I wouldn't worry about that.
Did your problem start after you changed your oil pan? Do you have good oil pressure?

i am receivnig great oil pressure readings, i am not seeing any leaks what so ever (i was worried the oil pan might leak) but everything is fine. i dont have any dent on the tranny pan. as i said earlier. i think it just may be an exhaust leak???

coolant level is unchanged. dont burn anything. just starts to make the sound when the engine is warm and its under load. someone said it may be a loose manifold, ill tighten them and see if they were loose but i dont know why it would only make the noise when the engine is warm if that was the case. someone else said it may be pinging or advanced timing. car starts right up , no change there and added injector cleaner and octane boost and that didnt help either. im stumped.

Does it make the sound when you put it in drive and keep your foot on the brake? Can anyone else hear it when you are in the car? What I am getting at is can you get under the hood when the noise occurs or is it when you are driving?

Does it make the same sound with the heater turned on or off?
Could it be something weird with the heater core?
I ask because of this: You said you were jacking the engine up to replace the motor mounts.
Could you have accidently kinked a heater hose? Or crimped/bent the brass nipples that stick out from the fire wall (that the heater core hoses connect to?
Just trying to think here...

i jacked the engine, well im getting decent heat, ill jack to see if anything on the firewall looks funny, but last time i checked everything was ok. i only hear the sound when im in gear accelerating, but when im in park or neutral reving, i dont hear it. thats whats really confusing me?
