LO3 Won't Start After Rebuild
I finished reassembling everything and have been trying to start it all morning. I added new bearings, a high volume oil pump, timing chain, Accel cap/rotor/wires, an LT1 cam and springs, Ultimate TBI mods and Vac. AFPR. It turns over, has spark and fuel, and the timing has been moved all morning anywhere from 4 retard to 4-6 adv with the EST connected. Any advice??
I think it may just be a timing problem, the book says 0* with EST unhooked, but not to unhook it until the engine was warmed up. Where should I try to set it with the EST hooked up or should i just start it with it unhooked and set at 0*.
Thanks for any help

if it spins freely but doesn't catch you most liekly have the distributor in a tooth off or somethin. find TDC on 1 again adn pull the dist and reinstall. your base timing is also going to have to be higher than stock since you have a larger cam in it now. try starting with abotu 8 to 10 degrees of advance and go from there.
good luck

The distributor has been out multiple times already, moved it a tooth and lined up the cap(#1 plug) with rotor at TDC so I think the distributor is fine.
I'm assuming the 8-10* is with the EST connected?
Thanks

One thing that I learned in autos class in high school was that you absolutely have to disconnect the EST wire before changing the timing. If I remember correctly, the computer controls the timing and if you try to set the base timing with the EST still hooked up, you aren't really accomplishing much. So Definitely set the base timing with the EST disconnected, like the book says. I'm not talking from experience, just schooling, so I don't really know what else could be wrong, other than what NJ SPEEDER said, which you said you tried already. Good Luck

Thanks for the help. It turned out to be operator error, I put the distributor in 180* off when I buttoned up the engine a couple weeks ago.
Spun it 180*, it fired first try and idled smooth around 16* adv. I had forgotten how sweet open headers sound.
Thanks again.
