What are the symptoms of a dead ECM?

Simple yet dumb question, I know, but I have checked out everything in the wiring and sensors, nothing appears bad. Still getting power to the coil and to the distributor (new AC Delco distributor), but no spark at the plugs.
Am lost, I admit it.........

COULD BE THE FUEL PUMP...

Do you hear the fuel pump priming when you key the ignition?

IF NO: You found your problem it's the pump or the relay. Usually the pumps fail more since a relay is basicly just a switch. You can swap in a good relay to be sure.

If OK then

Are your injectors firing? (spraying fuel when you crank the engine)

IF not check that the battery is good.

A weak battery can prime the fuel pump BUT will not have enough juice to run it.

If battery is OK then its the fuel pump.

No Spark to the plugs?

How about: New wires, If they are new, then try:

Take off cap and have somebody turn the engine over for you to see if the rotor is turning.

Also: Possible Timming chain might be broke.

You said it is a new distirbutor. but check the pick up coil anyway with an Ohm meter.

One last thing: you said "No spark at the plugs" Did you check it by way of having the plug against the block or with the plug out and a piece of metel inside the plug wire against the block?

No spark at the plugs could mean bad plugs, no spark in the wires could mean the above items.
