?'s after LT1 cam install

This weekend, i finally got to install my '94 LT1 cam shaft, edelbrock TBI intake, Z28 valve springs, and cool double roller timing chain. My dad did all that valve adjusting stuff with the car off, and we fired it up succesfully on the first try.

I took it for a test drive, and i have no low end power at all.... it barley gets out of its own way. Once it hits ~2100 rpm, it runs like a raped ape... it will pull all the way to 5500 rpm.

Everything seems to run ok except for the lost low end power. Is there anything i can do to fix this, or did we do something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated, because my dad and i spent alot of time on this thing for it to not even chirp the tires anymore...

thanks for any input

I believe prom/chip tunning is needed. I'm having very similar problems myself after finishing a L98 cam swap and springs/retainers.

mine doesnt chirp tires anymore, but i think some suspension upgrades fixed that kinda. Did you bump up the timing to about 6-9 degrees?

the timing curve in the chip is very weak in the high load low rpm area

You are going to need to start playing with the chip if you want to get the most out of it.

Thanks for your help, I had a feeling that the chip might be holding me back some...

When you're adding timing on the chip, is there a reading to tell you when to back off? My hearing isnt exactly top notch and I have a hard time picking up pinging.

Yep, WinALDL will give you a readout of your ping detections from your knock sensor.
