Cam and intake swap on high mileage engine
Cam and intake swap on high mileage engine
I posted about this a long while ago, back when i first joined. WELL, i now have money again and its time to do some spring cleaning. My car currently has 148k miles, and other then a nagging leak from a front gasket on the intake, and the occasional burning of oil, the car is running pretty good. The compression test (when i ran it a year or so ago) came up w/ 160 or 180 across the board...whichever the number is, i dont remember, please forgive me. Anyway, i'm gonna be yanking the intake off in the next month and figured why not do a cam swap as well. But then i thought maybe a newer cam would upset the engine and do more harm then good. So...thought comments? Ye or ne on this one? I'm doing the intake swap regardless so i'm just asking mostly about the cam. Thanks
I assume you have a 305, and I don't see a problem with going with something like the LT1 cam on that mileage.
I know people who are putting BLOWERS on 5.0 Mustangs with about that mileage on them, and still getting a lot of life out of the engines.... so certainly a GM product could handle a cam swap.
Just out of curiosity, what intake are you putting on?

You should not have any trouble with that swap I did my lt1 cam swap around 110K and then I did my head and intake swap around 140K an it is running very strong. You should not have any problem with clearence I have an RPM air gap with the the carb adapter and the NOS plate an i have no problems with clearence and i have the SS hood. I would mabey change out the lifters just to be to sure
