Holly 670 on a stck 305

I'm looking to add a little more to my stock 305. I've seen you guys talk about the Holly 670. Will it make an improvement if everthing else is stock. I aslo might get a chip from www.tbichips.com , If I get the holly should I get the chip. If the Holly wont do anything, is it still worth it to get the chip (which is only $30).

Thanks, Jawz

what else have you done to the car, if you haven't done anything, spend the money on exaust.

I havent done anything to the motor accept K&N filter. So it is all stock. I was planing to do a 3" exaust all the way back. Do you have any recamandation on where I can get a good price and the exaust parts. And so I can look to see what I'm going to need. Or do you have a list of what prts I should look for on a 3" exaust.

i just put a 3" catco cat (summit) and 3" flows (i got this from a member of our local club, but summit also has it). i am also putting hooker 1 5/8" headers and 3" Y pipe on this month.

catback will cost about the same as the holly TB. cat was $80, install should run under $200 headers will be about $350 ($550 if you get them coated). i don't know what a shop would charge to install that for you, i am doing it myself.

you can pick up headman or hooker headers with no a.i.r. and no y pipe for about $120, then have a shop make a y-pipe for you, and probably come in under $200. but if you have to pass smog you can't go that route.

Did you have to pull the engine to do the header swap.

actualy i think with headman headers you can buy a Y-pipe for like $80. so that would be right around 200 for headers/y-pipe, with no smog, you could just take the cat off, and then the catback.

(you will have to check pricing out, i am doing this all from memory so prices may be off)

i beleive those headmans are the long tubes, thats not what you want.

as for the factory "headers" they aren't tubular headers they are cast manifolds like what you have, just slightly bigger.

these are what you are looking for

HED-68470 shorty style.

or

HOK-2460 - hooker 1 /58" shorty style

i am not finding part numbers for Y-Pipe right now, because my mind is a blank, and it is friday, and i am work LOL....

Hay thanks,

Just another thought, How easy would it be to run a dual exaust instead of the Y pipe.

it is alot of customer work, but doable, one of the guys in the local club (member of this board - - CheezX) runs true duals and an X pipe, with his t56, but it was quite a bit of work. if you want to go that route, look into the exaust board and do a search for dual exaust, it has been beat to death over there.

you shouldn't.

i have heard some people who have needed to jack the engine up and 1" or 2, but nothing like pulling the engine.

the drivers side will just slide right in but the passenger side will have to be jacked up a couple of inches.

for exhaust, i have heddman headers & y-pipe ($200 for both), 3" catco cat ($100), and hooker catback ($200). headers both dropped right in (with my sbc 400, but same exact size as the 305/350). i think one side took a little work, but both went in without having to jack anything. however i ran into a problem with my starter hitting the header, but that may be due to it being larger than my original stock one (i need to find me a mini or smaller one). did everything myself and now just need to get everything welded up

I didn't install my headers myself but my mechanic at the time said they had to jack the engine. I know when I pulled the engine, the drivers side header was catching on the steering shaft, and the passenger's side was hung up on something as well (can't remember). I have hedman headers

I say look into the Hooker 2055's. they come with a 3" y-pipe 1-5/8" primaries. i think you can get em for a lil over $300. this post should really go to the exhaust board now
