smaller open element

hi,

would it hurt the performance if I would took a 10x2 open element instead of a 14x3 on my tbi?

No, well not until it gets dirty. A 14x3 can filter more air so it will last longer than a smaller filter.

I run a 10x3 flatbase with no problems. As far as the correct size to use in relation to the amount of HP & RPM's you will run, I figured my numbers on 300HP @ 6000 RPM's and K&N's recommended filter size (with a 10" diam.) was 3.25" height.

I'm not running anywhere near 6000 rpms let alone 300HP so I figure that my engine is breathing just fine!

yup, larger ones take longer to get dirty. i had a 6x1.5 open element on my car once, damn that got dirty quick

What about an FIPK cold air from a late model TBI chevy truck with a cone filter? That would take alot more colder air in then the open element.

just thought about it, but I think that's to expensive for me. I will build a mix of open element and cold air...
