Are AFR heads worth the $1445 sticker price?
Are AFR heads worth the $1445 sticker price?
I was thinking about these heads with 195cc intake runners and 64cc combustion chambers, which would have to be milled as to not lower compression, but with my budget , Ive been looking at S/R torquer and motown street heads. Are motowns to extreme for my street application with there 220cc runners,2.08/1.600 valves? Which do you guys prefer?

what is your application?
i doubt 2.08s will have any chance of fitting on a 305. and AFR 195s are probably overkill on a 305 and TBI.

go with the SR Torquer 305, they will give you a big gain over stock and wont break your wallet like the AFRs. They will also leave you with extra money for headers, 3" exhaust, intake, LT1 cam, gears, etc..

well, i was just assuming that he would be installing them on his 305. Let us know the actual engine that it is going on and you will get more feedback.
you don't need a massive flowing head for a mildly biult motor the more velocity the better if your use to big of a head you'll lose performance. imo on a mildly biult 350 you could use 180 or 190 arf head and probably get the performace gain. as for cost if you can spare the dough the afr are the $hit. if you go to
www.ronsraceshop.com you can purchase the heads your looking at for about $1,200

Sorry for not replying sooner , about the AFRs , I also thought about the runners and how air velocity would be affected with bigger runners, so S/R torquers would be the best choice, although vortec L31 heads would be cheaper, isnt there a hassle in the long run with the special intake bolt pattern and the expensive vortec manifold? And as for the earlier questions i do plan on staying with the stock shortblock.

AFR 195's are over the edge crazy for a 305.
Motown heads are over the edge, hitting every rock on the way down crazy.
Matching parts will yield the best results. Having too much heads will make the car hard to drive on the street and slow at the track.
