what kind do you have? A mechanical advance type dist? I cant see it not being an hei since the computer gets its reference pulse from the dist. If it came with the car, you should have the regular run of the mill computer controlled hei dist. with the seperate coil. With a stock setup, its probably not worth the money for a pricy aftermarket ign. system.

I have some mods- 180*thermostat 180*fans switch- 14inch K&N, Underdrive pullies, Flowtech headers and y pipe and a 2 1/2 dynomax catback and free flow cat. However i havnt tuched the ignition other than new 8mm wires. I though the HEI type distributors were the ones with the coil pack on top- I want to upgrade, just not sure of what to get- Jegs and summit only have upgrades for the Dist with the coil ontop- Should i just get a better Coil?

your ignition is hei, it just has a remote coil, it is still hei, unless of course someone molested the ignition before you bought it

No it's unmolested as far as i can tell- So it's an HEI with a remote coil. I guess i'll order an MSD blaster coil and see how that works out. Unless there are any better ways to go- How does an electronic ignition sytem like the MSD 6A or 6AL work- do i need to make any other modifications?

Just get you a MSD 6AL box and Coil and you will be good to go They make a big difference on your start up and you can get better gas mileage and better performance.
