Open Element results and Idiots at Pep boys
Hey guys, i know there are a ton on posts on open elements right now, but i wanna share my results with everyone. After Installing my open element i needed to make a run to pep boys because the retards there can never seem to get anything right., and they gave me the wrong size K&N filter. I didnt trust them and had the guy measure it the first time i was there and it looked like a 14 x 3 but maybe he was pulling it.
Anyway, 3 employees (including the manager), after looking through the computer for the size of a K&N for a 91 camaro were stumped.(even though i said it didnt come with the open element that was on it now and that their computer wouldnt help)
the manager said, i dont think you have that size on your car, and i said YES I DO, i installed it an hour ago. Then i asked him if I could measure another one myself and he said, well we measured this one as a 14 x 3 so i dont think there is anything we can do. then i was pissed and said can i have my money back then, and they gave it back, and as i was leaving he said, sorry we couldnt help and i dont know why i said it cause im not like that, but i said "whatever you F***ing moron, and left with him standing there, staring at me.
after leaving, i pulled next to an idiot from my school in an 80's integra and i was not in the mood for his gay ***** attitude, so on green i floored it and left rubber for about 10 feet till i let off, and left him standing there. then i was like holy ****, i had never been able to burn out from a stop before, and i just did it with ease. i thought it might have been a crappy road and it might have been a fluke, but i tried it again in another area and it did the same thing. i was pretty impressed by the power gain i got from the open element with the crappy paper element, and if any of u have been considering an open element, i say go for it, you cant lose, seeing as it costs 30 bucks
oh yea, sorry for the long post

my friend went to pepboy's looking for a pcv valve for his 67 mustang, the guy at the customer service desk asked him what car the part was for, he said "67 Mustang". The worker looked puzzled and said to himself as he typed it into the computer "Chevy Mustang", it didnt come up (obviously), then he said softly "is that a volkswagan". Then he asked my friend what a mustang was, he was like "uuuuu FORD". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, i couldnt believe it when he told me.

the reason it didnt come up in the computer is because 14x3 filters never came on camaros.you may have put it in yourself, but they never came stock.so its not their fault that the number that showed up for your car was the wrong size.so technically, you DONT have that size on your car as far as the computer is concerned.i will admit though, they are idiots over there.
I went there a few days ago and needed Flexplate bolts and posi additive.
I asked the manager for help, and he handed my friend torque converter bolts and I asked him for posi additive, he looked at me like I was the moron.
"Whats it for?"
"I have a open diff car, I read on the internet that if I add it to my open diff car, it'll become a posi, the people at eaton are just ripping you off."
"Ooohhhh that stuff."
He still had no clue what I was talking about, even though I was just BS'ing him.
What a moron. We even told the cust service people how stupid these people were.

I love it how whenever I go there and I need a part the never seem to have it in stock OR they only have 1 and I need 2. Not to mention I hate having to say "1992 Chevrolet Camaro", otherwise they f*ck up if I say "92 Camaro"!

I think every parts place has their dumbasses. I have asked for many parts that are not specific to the 1992 305/700R4 combo but apply to all small blocks in general at the local advance. Things get really frustrating when you are doing a motor swap, esp. if it involves something wierd like my friend and I putting a SBC into his '78 Triumph TR-7. Conversations typically end up going something like this...
Harry:"I need 2 PCV type grommets for a late model SBC with centerbolt valve covers"
Jo Schmoe:"What kind of car is it for?"
Harry:"It doesn't matter, just give me the p/n."
Jo Schmoe:"Well I've gotta know what car it's going in to look up the p/n."
Harry:"The car it's going into doesn't matter, all that matters is that it is a SBC with centerbolt valve covers!"
Jo Schmoe:"I can't look up the p/n without a make and model."
Harry: (giving up) "It's a '78 Triumph TR-7 with a late model SBC in it."
(clicking ensues on the keyboard)
Jo Schmoe:"Chevy didn't make nothing called a Triumph in '78."
Harry:
Sometimes I hate going to get parts.

maroon91rs,
i knew they wouldnt have the part number for the air filter in the computer, and i did try telling the guy that, but because of their stupid system they cant see any p/n because they have to look up the cars that the parts came on, so they should either hire people that know more about cars, or shoot the person that came up with their computer system, cause im sure he didnt know much about cars, anybody that knows anything wouldnt have designed a system like that.

When you are dealing with idiots I usually play their game. When I parts I usually try and know the application for which the part i need is from. With the Triumph you should have said you had a TBI truck or something and bang you get what you want. There stupid computer system makes buying parts more and more difficult and is frustrating, I know its no excuse for the retard behind the counter but still. When I buy stuff now, especially at yards and so forth, I just tell them the application they want to hear. I want 65 pph cop injectors, i now own a 92 Chevy Caprive 9C1 magically and get no BS. Same goes for my TPI heads, I have a 92 Z28 with a cracked set of heads. I always used to tell the people what I wanted the parts for and half the time I would get something like, ohh that won't work and they wouldn't sell anything to me. Now i play their stupid game and I have no trouble getting parts. Although this won't always work( parts like open element filters and stuff like that, try a different store and just ask for the size you need, they should be able to get that but you obviously dealt with some real degenerates), but most of the time that is what I do and I am fine. Found that out buying parts when I converted my 69 to rear discs, had no trouble getting everything I needed when I told the morons it was for a 350 powered 78 Seville, without that I was getting nowhere( why the engine mattered i don't know, the brakes were the same whether it was gas or diesel, but thats that usless parts software). Even had a friend who wanted Vortecs for his TBI truck and when he told them what he wanted to do with them, they wouldn't sell him them, now if he said he had a Vortec truck, no trouble. Its just stupidity, but unfortunately thats the way the world works.

Dude, tires make more of a differance in terms of traction on these tbi cars than anything else. i used to think my rs was doggy and needed a massive tune up, until today. I ploped down the cash and got a new passengers rear (other one got eaten up in the rain and salted roads this winter) and now i get tire noise at 1/4 throttle. I had some sumitomo htr's on both rears and infact all the way around but one get a 4 inch nail through it and the other, like i said got eaten up. Man can you tell the differance between a soft and hard compound tire on these things. I would deffinantly say that maybe you're tires were low, hit some shyte pavement or something, because if she don't brake loose before the open element and she does afterwords its just a coincedence, either that or you had a solid piece of plastic in there instead of an air filter.

I used to work at ADVANCE AUTO PART'S here where i live and i quit cause they started hiring the dumbest people. They got their store manager form FRED"S deparment store When he came to the store he didnt even know what a airfliter was.
seriously, i know what it could and couldnt do before, but now that i have the open element in now i can spin the tire whenever i want. Im not saying that i could never spin the tires before, but it was rare, and the type of road was what mattered.I have cooper cobra 235's on right now, an i didnt have them put on so i dont now much abou them, anyone know about cobras?

Posi or not? Ive got the stock 2.73's, peg leg, the 85-87 iroc 16x7's or 8s what ever they are, and with the sumitomo's i couldn't get much except maybe a chirp on crap pavement but with the firehawks that are on the back it'll smoke the one through first and my car needs some tune up work.
I have 265/50/15 coopers. When I had the peg 3.42, I could burn them on my 305 when I wanted to. With the 350, it was when I didn't want to also. With the 350, 2.73, posi and fat tires, I can get them loose around a corner on command.
Lemme finish up this incoherant rambling, they suck.

My 88 camaro won't spin the wheels if I just stand on it. I have to power brake to get a wheel to spin. No posi. eagle GT+4s all around. I think they are 215s. They are the original size. no mods.
I'm getting curious about the open element.
My stupid autozone story. I went to an autozone in TX and bought a bunch of parts like PC valve, air filter, and other stuff like that and it added up to maybe $30. The cashier screwed something up when he rang it up and called over the manager. They messed w/ it for a couple of minutes and the manager told me "Merry Christmas". I just smiled. I thought he was kidding. The manager explained to me that the cashier had accidentally charged my purchase to the store and he didn't know how to undo it. I said really? He said yeah, go on get out of here. So I left. Sometimes their mistakes are beneficial.

Forgot to mention, I like your car. You seem to take a different route than me. I went engine performance first, suspension second, you went suspension first, engine performance second. You remind me a of a friend. He has a race build 700R4, a moser 9" with all the mods you can do, and a completely stock 305. He was going to tuck & tub his car and get 15" slicks. Until I told him it was overkill and a waste of money.
Ya i dont "need" the slicks but droppin at 4k and catching isnt anything that really feels like that guys, i would never have baught them new thats like 600 bux worth of wheels and tires, 15x8 drag lites and those slicks add up to right around that amount. But i got them off a friend the (2) 15x8 drag lites and (2) 27x10x15 hoosier slicks for 100 bux. Just couldnt pass anything up like that. Also how do i get a link to my page in my sig?
Stupid Parts Guy Story:
I ordered new cold-rolled drop springs from Sprint, thru a suspension shop for my 91 RS Camaro...#3100............
The dyslexic goober ordered #3001........drop springs for a Geo Metro...id be big-pimpin......my 91 would lay out like nobody's business.

Something like that.
I (sadly) used to work at AUTOZONE... I started when I was 16... my first MONTH there I had more sales than everyone else in the store COMBINED... I should include, however, that I had already helped rebuild 5 or 6 chevys with my dad... lol
the funniest thing I EVER SAW was when some guy started arguing with me over the stock engine sizes in a 5.0 mustang, he tried to tell me he had a 350 TPI "big block", He claimed to me it "musta have about 400 HP" So, being the @ss that I am... I called him on it... I took a "smoke break" and folowed the MF to his car... it was a '90 GT rustang BODY.. under his hood... TO HIS AMAZEMENT and my LAUGHTER was a 4 cylinder... he says "AWWWW MAN, I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR YESTERDAY, I THINK I GOT RIPPED OFF" I said "WELL.,, you DID buy a MUSTANG"
