4,000 RPMS at start up...WHEEEEE!!! Need Help Please

I think I just screwed myself big time...
I was attempting to install a TBI 1/2" spacer, and a 1/4 inch injecter pod spacer that I bought from the classifieds section here at thirgen, but when I assembled everything, the engine would race to 4,000 RPMS at start up.

I took the open air element off, and could see that the injectors where spraying a large amount of fuel, but the throttle blades were not opened at all. What the hell?

I tried restarting it a couple times, and still had the same result. Thinking the injector pod spacer was too thick, I went and replaced it with the stock one, but I still had the same result. I ended up breaking the fuel line when I was going to take the 1/2" TBI spacer off, so now I am stuck until I get another one somewhere..What a mess..

I double checked to make sure I connected all the sensors and hoses to the throttle body, but they all seemed fine. What could be the problem? The 1/2" spacer??? Some kind of sensor?? Someone please help

Sounds like some kind of massive vaccum leak to me. Check and make sure all of your vaccum lines are connected to the right spot.

I am pretty sure all the vacuum lines are hooked up. I just thought of something. I had the air cleaner off when I started it up. Would this cause the high rpms? I also forgot to disconnect the negative battery terminal, but I did disconect and reconnect it after I was done assembling everything.

the air cleaner would have nothing to do with it.

Make sure the throttle is closed to lock.

I had the same problem when I installed my spacer a LONG time ago, mine was 3/4 inch I think. Maybe even 1 inch. Did you get instructions with the spacer? There is something you are supposed to do with the throttle cables so they don't make the throttle stay open and stick. Are there half inch spacers for the throttle bolts with the spacer, that's definatley a must.

I got no instructions or throttle bolts. I have the 1/2" spacer so I was under the impression you didn't need to modify the throttle cables. I did have to use longer 3" bolts to bolt the throttle body down. In any rate, the throttle blades don't open at all unless I make them open.
I'm going to get rid of that TBI spacer as soon as I get the broken fuel line repaired, and I'll see if that cures it.

That is the problem.

Even though the throttle blades don't look like they are open, they might be open just a bit more than idle and it make the motor rev up like that.

At any rate you are supposed to have round spacers that go around the bolts for whatever height the spacer is, you should have some 1/2 inch spacers with your setup.

It appears you are right, 330hp_91RS.

The problem is in the TBI spacer. I removed it, and it idles fine now.

The spacer width varies by 1/16", and isn't cut very precisely. Also easily cracked.

This is it for TBI mods for me.
