383 is running!!

Wow!!! This engine is beastly to say the least. And so far the Holley 670 seems to be doing a pretty good job of making power, so far better than I expected. I haven't been able to get on it at WOT yet or take it past 4,500rpm. The cam seems to be giving my computer fits down low unfortuantly, but hopefully a little chip tuning will help fix that. My buddy's '91 Z has a 383 TPI running 12.3-12.5s, and simply going off of the "feel", I honestly feel I will achieve the same times. This engine is pulling strong! I'm really excited about this guys and am really confident in some awesome track times. Once I fully break her in, I'll be at the track. I can't wait!!

Congratulations, I can't wait to have mine running. How does that cam sound? Good luck with the tuning.

How come you chose the cam you did? Not doubting you, I just woulda chose something with a 110* LSA to get a little more lope at idle and better hp up top.

Well hell, are you gonna take it to KCIR? If so, I'd like to see you up there! I'm thinking of an engine swap sometime this summer when I get enough money saved.

a cam with a LSA of 110* would give his computer more problems and would probably be harder to tune.

What altitude are you at and how much manifold vacuum can you get out of it after its warmed up and you play with the timing?

Yup, I'll be up at KCIR. I hope to see ya up there mutiny. I'll be sure to get a hold of you when I go.
And ya, the reason I chose the cam is because of the LSA. 110*LSA w/ .510 lift and TBI would make tuning near impossible. 114* is a little more computer friendly.
The cam sounds really good, it's pretty lopey, definetely sounds mean. I still need to play with the timing, and definetely going to need more chip tuning. I ran winaldl yesterday. I was getting knock counts throughout the chart, however when I decrease the base timing, she wants to die at idle. I am getting a code 33, which is MAP related. Vacuum may be an issue.
I wasn't able to get the passenger side collector bolted up to the y-pipe either. I'm also having problems with the driveshaft hitting my safety loop on the spohn crossmember. I've tried steve's suggestions, but to no prevail. So needless to say, I broke down and brought her to a shop to have those two things taken care of. This was my first engine swap, and needless to say it was pretty frustrating at times, and I'm just about to the point of going mad. But I should be getting her back this evening, so I'll have some more time to mess around with her.
