it is a very common mod, and lots of poeple have alot success with it, but when you start changing componets like heads/cam ect, you will NEED to get into PROM burning.

That'll probably give you about 20 or so posts on that exact question.

TBIChips.com

I didn't need one. I am running a 350 chip due to the fact I have a 350.

I dont really have times, but when I street raced some kid on a backroad that was marked for 1/4 mile, I did cross the line at about 100.

I'm figureing that to about a 13.9-14.2 range.

A big block is alot of work to do. Not only that, if thats your DD, you stand a good chance of killing youself. IIRC, your 16. You dont have the driving experience to handle that kinda power.

Another one of the low-14 second 305 arguements.

In all honestly, goto TACreationsUSA.com and get a L98 motor from them and install it. While your there, put some headers in (your there anyway right?) remove your smog pump, put the cam in while the motor is out and you WILL hit those times.

I dont THINK your gonna hit low 14's with a 305 and under $800.

Also, with a 350, the extra torque will let you get sideways no matter what gearing you have. Right now I have a 2.73 Posi rear in my car and I can get it sideways ATM.

That impresses people alot.

Lemme ask my friend. We usually buy cheap wheels/tires to do burnouts with. Why smoke up my 265's?

Also, the RS's didn't come with Posi's. They were open. How the hell my friend managed to get a 2.73 posi, I dont know, I do know its there.

(I checked the gearing and the posi has almost no slip, it might even be a locker, I'll know soon.)

NO, you can probably change everything on the engine except the cam or heads, and be fine with the stock chip and manual timing advance(turning dist.).

The car will run with a very mild cam(LT1, LT4, L98), and timing set at ~8-12* with the stock chip, but it won't run very well IMO.

What I mean by "not very well" is that the car will have no low-end power or throttle response, will idle pig rich, horribly. And could probably gain .3-.5 sec and 1-3 mph in the 1/4 by getting a custom chip that is tuned right.

As for getting a 14.0-14.4 out of a 305 TBI? I've already done it. See sig. It would be pretty impressive to do it for $800. Think a lot of used parts.

Like someone else said, when mentioning your sig, please post it too.

That also might be why my car gets such bad mileage.

Exactly what will happen. You'll make no power under 3000 rpm and you'll get 9-10 mpg.
